Hackers attacked Universiti Malaya E-Pay website

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

It’s been a while since we hear hackers defacing websites. Back in the early 2010s, many Malaysia websites were defaced by hackers from Indonesia. Yesterday, hackers have hacked the Universiti Malaya E-Pay website.

At this moment, of writing this post, we aren’t able to access the E-Pay website. It was showing “epay.um.edu.my took too long to respond.” However, if you just search the query “E-Pay Universiti Malaya”, you still able to see the protest message in the meta description.

According to Lowyat.net, this website is mainly used by the students of Universiti Malaya to make their universities fees payments. Since this website has been hacked, there could be a possible risk of the student personal details to compromised as well.

We will update you guys with more information once we got an official update from Universiti Malaya. If you or your friends are from Universiti Malaya, share it to them to keep track on this issue.

[UPDATE] Grab officially rolls out its new safety feature to all Malaysians

[UPDATE] – Grab Malaysia has contacted TechmonQuay to clarify about it. According to Grab Malaysia, the reason for implementing this feature is because it is a requirement by the government to verify the passengers’ accounts. Rather than capturing the passenger identification card (IC), instead, Grab implements one-off facial recognition.

One of the advantages of capturing selfies is less invasive than the passenger ID card which carries more sensitive information such as DOB and address.

Grab has notified us saying that the selfie image which Grab captures, is only used for passenger identification only. Neither the image nor your account details are shared with the drivers or any other Grab partners. This information is protected under the PDPA law.

Grab will only share its passenger to the authority only if a written application is made to the government. Thinking of the bright side, Grab has managed to reduced passenger-related crimes on its platform by 30% after introducing this safety feature.

Back in March, Grab introduces a new safety feature, where it requires its passengers to take selfies. After a few months, Grab has officially rolled out this safety feature to all Malaysians.

If you notice, when you open your Grab app to book your ride, there will be a pop-up screen requesting you to take a selfie of your face. During the official launch, Grab Malaysia Country head Sean Goh says none of the passenger’s information will be collected. However, it looks like he was wrong about it.

According to Mashable, in the Grab’s Privacy Policy page, it says “Grab may also use your Personal Data in connection with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, sale of company assets, consolidation, restructuring, financing, business asset transactions, or acquisition of all or part of our business by another company.”

Well, this is something as a passenger we might not want to hear. Anyways, we might need to wait and see how Grab handles this information. What do you think about grab taking selfie feature? Some say it’s not required. What about you?

Singapore Ryde carpooling service to start service on Nov 1

Reading Time: 3 minutes read

With the increase in population in every country, travelling in a car could be really a hassle. That’s the reason many of us are using e-hailing services such as Grab and MULA to reach our destination on time. However, now for the Grab service, you need to wait for a longer time due to the Passenger Service Vehicle (PSV) license issue. In order to tackle this issue, Singapore’s Ryde service is coming to Malaysia starting 1st of November 2019.

Ryde is Malaysia’s first carpooling service which is a not-for-profit carpooling company. According to its CEO Terence Zou, RydePool main aim is to encourage people to commute by carpooling. He added, it should be an eco-friendly activity rather than a profession.

How RydePool works?

Similar to other e-hailing services, RydePool also allows you to pay the driver. In addition to that, the fares will be recommended by the app itself. The app will calculate the total distance travelled, petrol and toll fare. So, if you are looking to carpool to your destination, you can enter the number of pax with you and then you have to wait for the driver to accept your request. Once you have carpool with the same driver, you can save the driver information in the app and next time, you can request the same driver if the driver travels to the same locations too.

For the drivers, the payments will be received into your account after each ride. However, for Malaysia, Ryde is planning not to take any commission on the payments. Which means, all the earnings will be in the form of cash only. If you are planning to register as a RydePool driver, you don’t have to worry about the PSV license either because this service is not for profit. Do note that, the app allows you to pick up passengers twice a day only.

According to the CEO, there are already a few hundred users who have downloaded the driver app in Malaysia. He has targetted there could be at least 5,000 drivers by end of this year. If you are interested to register as a driver, you need to submit your identification card, contact number, driving license, profile photo, car registration details including the photo to Ryde. The company will notify you once it verifies your information.

Whereas for the passengers, you will have a separate app too similar to other e-hailing services. All you need to do is submit both your profile photo and your contact number in the app itself. At this moment, Ryde is planning to expand its service mainly to Johor, Penang and Melaka.

In conclusion, the only issue we think like a passenger you might face is privacy. If multiple people are carpooling in a same vehicle, some of you might feel weird about it. Nevertheless, we believe you can make many new friends and grow your business network from the Ryde carpooling service. To register as a driver click here and to download the passenger app click here. For more information visit Ryde official website.

Everything you need to know about Google Pixel 4 before the launch

Reading Time: 3 minutes read

Google will be unveiling the most rumoured Google Pixel 4 today at its “Made by Google” event. The media event will take place today in New York City. Most of us waiting for Google to unveil the Pixel 4 smartphone with improvement to the hardware and designs. With that said, here’s everything you need to know about Google Pixel 3 ahead of the launch.

Facial Recognition and Motion Sense

Do you still remember back in July Google releases a video on the Pixel 4? From the video, the first thing we notice was Google Pixel 4 will be having its own Face ID feature to unlock the device. Continuously watching the video, we also notice Google will also be introducing a new feature called Motion Sense. This feature will allow you to navigate your phone without even touching it.

For example, you can simply wave your hand to the right to select the next song. Thinking about this feature, we feel this is something not useful. This is because most of the time we are holding our phone in one hand only. We prefer to use in a single hand. Unless you really cannot touch your phone using your hands, then this feature could be really useful though.

Coming back to the facial recognition feature, we believe you can unlock your phone in any orientation. This is something Apple iPhone does not have. However, we have to see it first how it works before confirming things. For the specs-wise, you can click the button below for the expected specs. Do note this is the leaked specs previously.

Motion Mode

Besides that, Google surely will be improving its camera on the Google Pixel 4. The previous Google Pixel 3 camera was totally mind-blowing. Personally, we felt it was the best camera ever in a smartphone. Now, we are expecting Google to unveil a new feature for this device which is the Motion Mode. Using this feature, you can easily capture action shots with your Google Pixel 4 camera. For instance, if you see someone jumping from a trampoline, you can easily capture their action moments easily.

Audio Zoom

This is something feature we are expecting on the Google Pixel 4. Audio Zoom has been used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and also in the latest iPhone 11 Pro. It will adjust the audio level in real-time when you zoom to a specific object. If you are zooming on a specific person who is talking, the outside sounds will be reduced so that you can hear the sounds of the person talking.

Audio Transcript

The other feature is something Android 10 already has is Audio Transcript. Google could be revamping its Recorder app for the Google Pixel 4. With this app, your audios will be translated into a text where you can search your recordings easily by using the search terms.

Image from 9t6o5Google

Auto Dial 911

Last but not least, Google might be working also on this new feature too. If you have met with an accident, your phone can immediately call 911. How these things works are still unclear. We will have to wait for Google to reveal it today.
