With the evolving technology today, the world has seen many changes.
According to Ericsson Mobility Report conducted on November 2018, global mobile
data traffic is expected to multiply by five before the end of 2024;
particularly in dense urban areas, the current 4G networks simply won’t be able
to keep up. While the world’s demand for high-speed connectivity increases, we
need a frontier technology to support our network, and that’s where 5G comes
in.
Following Vivo Malaysia’s recent launch of Vivo NEX 3, which is presented as the first 5G smartphone in Malaysia – where NEX 3 came on time to provide the best 5G experience for users. A panel discussion was organised recently by Vivo Malaysia to discuss on the vital role of 5G in the fast-paced smartphone industry; involving Mike Xu, Chief Executive Officer of Vivo Malaysia, Rene Bernard, President of Access Blockchain Association Malaysia and Kenneth Ho, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Beamstart Malaysia.
Being seen as one of the leading smartphone manufacturers, Vivo has started its 5G technology research and development hub in Beijing, China in 2016. On the first quarter of 2017, Vivo presented its technological development in High Power User Equipment (HPUE) at the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Summit 2017 in Barcelona, showcasing its commitment to herald in the 5G era.
“Vivo has always been a technology-driven company by product innovation with a focus on smart devices and services. We are introducing the strategy to expand 5G end-points to include AR glasses, smartwatches, smart headphones and more while using 5G-enabled smartphones as a core feature,” shared Mike Xu, Chief Executive Officer of Vivo Malaysia during the panel discussion.
Additionally, Vivo strives to develop products that cater to everyone while enforcing the 5G application in all their products.
“To support the needs of consumers when connecting both digital and physical worlds while providing a more holistic and richer user experience across all Vivo 5G devices, Vivo adopted a multi-device, multi-application, and multi-scenario approach,” Mike Xu added.
On the same year, Vivo and Qualcomm signed an MoU worth 4 billion U.S. dollars. The signing of this MoU signifies Vivo and Qualcomm’s technical partnership and patent sharing and ensured Vivo’s leading position in mobile-related technologies.
Later in 2018, Vivo has announced plans to spearhead industry development of pre-commercial 5G smartphones through the introduction of ground-breaking 5G software and hardware based on Vivo NEX smartphone series.
Additionally, Vivo has completed the initial development of 5G smartphone software and hardware on Vivo NEX. Running on Qualcomm’s X50 modem, Vivo has concluded initial architecture planning, 3D placement stacking, radiofrequency antenna designs and optimised battery space within NEX to deliver 5G capabilities.
In June 2018, Vivo today has detailed its collaboration with Qualcomm to address a critical 5G development milestone with their ground-breaking 5G antenna technology. This milestone is significant as the arrival of 5G is creating major design challenges for smartphone manufacturers and network operators. To fully support the rollout of 5G services, even greater complexity and tougher requirements have been added to antenna designs and technologies.
Knowing that 5G serves to achieve the goal of enhanced person-to-person connectivity as well as improving individuals’ connection with the world, via any device, at any time and anywhere, Vivo shared its vision and insight on 5G development and how it will empower a new era of smart living during Qualcomm’s 4G/5G Summit held in Hong Kong in 2018.
On June 2019, Vivo unveiled its latest cutting-edge innovation at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2019 as part of its new strategy to deliver richer mobile experience in the 5G era. Aligning with MWC’s theme of “Intelligent Connectivity” this year, Vivo showcased several 5G enabled smart devices and applications, as well as new technology breakthroughs while demonstrating its commitment to empowering the next-gen mobile experience.
However, Vivo is not going to stop here; fact that Vivo is still making continuous efforts – striving to develop the most refined and innovative technology to be embedded in all their products to bring huge changes to people’s lives.

Sunway Pyramid mall in Selangor is taking a step forward by introducing the License Plate Recognition (LPR) system.

Honor 9X will be on Android
After the launch of the Huawei Mate 30, Huawei officially announces, the device will not come with Google apps and services. If you are thinking Honor 9X also will be the same, then you are wrong about it. The Honor India President itself has confirmed that “Honor 9X will be launch by the end of this year in India. It will be on Android.” The reason behind this is because Honor 9X was launched back in July 2019 before the United States government bans Huawei. With this, we are expecting Honor 9X sales also to increase as users can use Google services.
Review Honor 9X before the official launch
Besides that, in Malaysia, Honor is running a contest now before the launch of Honor 9X. The Huawei sub-brand is giving its fans a chance to review the Honor 9X before the launch itself by joining the Honor Club Early Access Program. Last week, Google unveil Pixel 4 with tons of new features in New York City. During the event, Google has unveiled its new security feature which is the face unlock feature. According to Google, the face unlocks features works very fast. However, it works even your eyes are closed.
This causes a security issue, where anyone can unlock your Pixel 4 when you are asleep. Now, Google has responded that it is working an option to require its users to open their eyes in order to unlock the phone. If you have pre-order the Pixel 4, the option is not coming anytime soon. Google will be working on this feature and will be rolled out via software update in the coming months.
Here’s the statement from Google spokesperson:
We’ve been working on an option for users to require their eyes to be open to unlock the phone, which will be delivered in a software update in the coming months. In the meantime, if any Pixel 4 users are concerned that someone may take their phone and try to unlock it while their eyes are closed, they can activate a security feature that requires a pin, pattern or password for the next unlock. Pixel 4 face unlock meets the security requirements as a strong biometric, and can be used for payments and app authentication, including banking apps. It is resilient against invalid unlock attempts via other means, like with masks.
Back to the classic pin, pattern and password feature
Meanwhile waiting for Google to unveil this option, Google has suggested its users use the Lockdown feature. This is the classic security feature where you can set pin, pattern or password to unlock your phone. According to The Verge, Pixel 4 has already a feature called Screen Attention. This feature turns off your phone screen when it detects your eyes are not looking at the phone else it will be on. Google could have used this feature for the Face Unlock too, but why it didn’t use it? That’s still questionable.
In conclusion, Pixel 4 will be officially going for sale on October 24 onwards. However, there isn’t any news about whether Google will launch Pixel 4 in Malaysia any time soon. Until now, even the Pixel 3 is not launched in Malaysia yet. So if you are looking to order one for yourself, you can order it via Lazada or any other e-commerce platforms.
The next viral app is here. It is called Gradient. Similar to the previous FaceApp, Gradient uses your face to show your celebrity doppelganger. Since last week itself, the app has gone viral as many celebrities started sharing their photo on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Gradient app is also developed by Russian developers. The FaceApp also was developed by Russian developers which had some user privacy issue. According to one of the reviewer, he says the app doesn’t use any AI to find your doppelganger. It randomly chooses some celebrities such as Bruno Mars and matches it with your photo. According to the Gradient website, it says it uses AI to match your doppelganger.
If you wished to give it a try of your face, you simply download the app both on iOS and Android devices for free. However, you can only use the app for only 3 days. After that, you will be charged $4.99 per week or $19.99 per month. This happens only if you forgot to cancel. So don’t forget ya.
The king of the foldable phone is ready to make a comeback after launching Motorola RAZR back in 2004. This could be the next foldable smartphone after Samsung and Huawei. Motorola has sent out the media invitation which it planned to launch the all-new Motorola RAZR at Los Angeles on the 13th of November.
Tech reviewers such MKBHD has received the official invitation from Motorola. From the animated invitation, it says “An original unlike any other” while displaying a hinge at the top. Besides that, Motorola has mentioned “highly anticipated unveiling of a reinvented icon” and “you are going to flip”. From the media invitation itself has proven it is going to be the Motorola RAZR.
Back in 2004, when Motorola introduces Motorola RAZR, it was one of the best flip phones in the world. According to Tech Radar, almost 50 million units have been sold from 2004 until 2006. It was the biggest selling flip phone back then. Now you know why we called the Motorola RAZR the king of the flip phone.
A smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy Fold
Thinking of the design, back in 2017, Motorola has filed a patent of a smartphone which almost looks like the upcoming Motorola RAZR. Since the foldable smartphone is the current trend, we are expecting Motorola RAZR also to have a dual display in the outside and inside.
When you flip the phone, you could have a full display on the inside. And once you flip it to close the phone, you could have another display which could show the notifications mainly. This could be almost similar to the concept of Samsung Galaxy Fold. However, this could be a smaller version of the Galaxy Fold. Before this, we have received the first look of the Motorola RAZR which was leaked online. We are assuming, that’s how the design of the RAZR is.
We will be updating you all from time to time regarding the Motorola RAZR. Keep on following our future updates on our Facebook page “TechmonQuay”.
