Two years back, you might have seen most of your friends in Facebook were playing quiz on Facebook. Those days, you would not know the effects of playing such games on Facebook. Today, Facebook sued two Ukrainian developers who creates these quiz app on Facebook.
The Facebook user’s private data was collected using the quiz app created by the developers. After collecting the users private data, they inject advertisements into the users News Feed. Both the developers known as Gleb Sluchevsky and Andrey Gorbachov were accused by Facebook of performing hacking activities on the users.
These developers have attracted the users to install some malicious browser plugins. Some of you might play the game “character and popularity” tests where you have to answer a few questions at the end it will tell about your character. You might be thinking this is a fun game, but this is the quiz game which has infected 63,000 Facebook users browsers. The developer’s main target was Russian and Ukranian users.
How the hackers gather your private information?
So how do they really get the users private details? At first, the user will log in into the web app using their Facebook login using the Facebook login feature. Once u click the button, they will show a message where the developer promised to collect only limited information. After that, they will direct the user to install the malicious plugin into your web browser as an extension. If you were unlucky and you installed the extension, you have already given access to the hackers to access to your Facebook private data. A note to that, not only Facebook was compromised other social networkwere infected too.
According to Facebook, the scheme would not have worked if they had not approved the hackers as developers. On 2016 and 2018, the hackers have registered under the name of “Elena Stelmah” and “Amanda Pitt”. Facebook has discovered this scheme “through an investigation of malicious extensions”. Knowing it, they have suspended both these accounts and contacted the browser makers to make sure the hackers application were completely removed.
Last week, Facebook has also sued four Chinese companies who sold fake Facebook accounts. These cases has gave Facebook a chance to defend themselves against charges with lack of privacy and security. Next time, as a user you should think twice before playing those games on Facebook. You can be the next victim.
A few years back when Apple reveals the Touch ID technology, the whole smartphone industry shook off. Now the bank of Natwest, which is situated at Britain is launching the worlds first ever fingerprint scanner debit card.
Image from Natwest
The Natwest bank is planning to start its trial on mid of April. At this moment, they will offer only 200 customers to use this feature. This will allow the selected users to make NFC payments without the need of entering their PIN number or their signature. Over in UK, if you want to use the contactless payments method, you will be charged 30 pounds for each transaction. However, using this fingerprint scanner debit card, you don’t have to worry about the additional 30 pounds being charged to your card.
This card is a very special one because you do not have to worry about security. Your fingerprint data is locally stored on the card. Hackers would not be able to steal your account information from the bank’s database. However, there is a risk where the thief can steal and duplicate your fingerprint. Even though, there is a method to get your fingerprint, this method is more safer than entering the PIN.
Trial run conducted over the past two years
Over these days, biometrics authentication is being used everywhere we go. From unlocking your mobile phones to paying using your ApplePay all we use is biometrics. In 2017, the company Gemalto did a trial run at South Africa. Gemalto has also conducted another pilot test at Italy in 2018 by having the fingerprint on the credit card. Anyhow, their cards had required the users to visit the bank to register before using the feature.
Even Natwest also having the same registration difficulty. Each of the participants has to go to the bank to register their fingerprint. Gemalto hopes in the future cards can be registered online using the user’s smartphone. You might be thinking you can directly use the Apple Pay to do NFC payments what is the need of the fingerprint scanner debit card. They believe that this scheme has the potential to be made available to people who can’t afford a smartphone.
It’s totally once in a blue moon Apple does its giveaway program. As we are expecting an Apple event soon, Apple does a giveaway program by providing the users some extra cash.
According to MacRumors, Apple will be giving away extra cash when the user transfers money into their Apple ID account. This can be done via debit or credit card only. As for now, this program is only available until March 14. Once you transfer a certain amount of cash into your account, you might get 10 percent of your transferred amount.
So how to get this? Its very simple. You just have to reach your iPhone setting and then tap on the iTunes & App Store button. Then enter your Apple ID which will show you the View Apple ID button. From there onwards, you can directly click on the Add Funds button to view the bonus amount which will be transferred. If you add $10 to your account you should be able to receive $1. If you add $100 then you are eligible to receive $10.
However, when Apple gives extra cash there is a downside too. You can only do this once only. You can add money to your account as usual, but you won’t be getting the bonus amount after you received it once.
It is the most common thing to see phone companies such as Apple and Samsung are always releasing their smartphone with the larger screen display. Previously, Apple had released a feature called Reachability. This feature allows the iPhone users to use their devices using one hand. This round, Samsung has released an application called One Hand Operation +. This application allows the user to use single hand to perform various actions.
With the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10 which has a larger display of 6 inches above, it causes user hard to perform actions such as pulling down the notification bar. Samsung has enabled the one-handed mode on all its smartphone. But what it does was similar to the Apple Reachability feature.
The One Hand Operation + app allows the user to customized their actions for the different type of actions. Since this is customizable, you can even swipe your thumb diagonally to open the notification bar. Samsung allows up to 6 actions to be customizable. If you have used the Galaxy S7 Edge then you might be familiar with the Edge Panel. The same area the setting appears. You can even turn off your screen with just a simple swipe. Isn’t it great!
Samsung users, can start to download this app from the Google Play store. Note that as for now it only supports Samsung smartphones only. You can expect this application might roll out for other Android smartphones too.
