TM has one month to report the Streamyx coverage issue

The main issue TM is facing right now is finding the right solution to fix Streamyx customers complaint. Today the Minister of Communication Gobind Singh has given a strict request for Streamyx to come out with a solution to solve issues regarding Streamyx subscribers within a month. According to TheStar, he tells TM to give special attention to its Streamyx customers who complain regarding slow speed.

During last year itself, TM shares several proposals to him and many rounds of discussions they have gone through. Until now, there is no strong decision taken after the proposals. If you notice on Twitter, many of the frustrated users complain about the Streamyx slow and expensive network. This time, Gobind Singh, says TM has to come out with a proper solution and made it as an announcement to the public. From his side, he gives assurance that the government will take the necessary steps to assist TM in solving this issue.

Following the instructions from Gobind Singh, TM issues a statement regarding the matter.

WE HAVE MET WITH YB MINISTER AND ARE FULLY COMMITTED TO RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. WE WILL BE SUBMITTING THE PROPOSAL WITHIN THE MONTH AND WILL MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT IN DUE COURSE. MEANWHILE WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPLORE VARIOUS FIT-FOR-PURPOSE TECHNOLOGIES AS WELL AS OPTIMISING EXISTING INDUSTRY MECHANISMS IN ORDER TO DELIVER A BETTER BROADBAND EXPERIENCE NATIONWIDE.

TM has appointed Datuk Noor Kamarul as its new CEO of TM. Last week, during his interview with the NewStraitsTimes, he says TM is exploring multiple ways to increase coverage via both wireless and wired. For this moment, he admits that TM fails to provide the best connectivity to its Streamyx subscribers.

Why not use the Yes GigaWire technology?

Before TM figures out its plan, YTL communications have already come out with a solution to solve the Streamyx issue. YTL introduces GigaWire technology which helps to provide the speed of fibre optic to the users.

At this moment, the GigaWire technology is able to deliver the same fibre optic speed in a copper wire. According to the test carried out in Malaysia, it seems the speed which they recorded was around 876Mbps. YTL Communications suggested areas which does not have fibre optic, they can use Terragraph to provide GigaWire speed to the users. All of this can be achieved by using the latest Qualcomm chip.

In conclusion, there are still many Streamyx users who are still paying RM160 per month for 8Mbps. TM has only one month to fix this issue before people get frustrated.

Niantic Lab is the developer for the world’s most famous game Pokemon Go. Three months ago, Niantic Lab opens its door to a few of the tech journalist to get their hands on the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite AR game. Previously, they plan to launch their new AR game on the end of this year. Now they are releasing it globally on Friday.

Niantic Labs launches the game as beta version previously in both Australia and New Zealand. Now once this game goes live, people and fans of Harry Potter are going to go crazy. At this moment, from the tweet by Niantic Lab says the worldwide launch will begin on June 21st. This means, they are slowly rolling the AR game to different countries in the game.

Back when they launch Pokemon Go, many countries were not able to download the game during the launch day. Countries like Japan took a very long time to launch Pokemon Go. You might need to wait a longer time for it to reach your country. In their tweet also says watch for more information. Most probably, Niantic will update us on the country launching.

In conclusion, we are not sure whether this game could take the same hit as Pokemon Go. But if it happens the Harry Potter game will be trending worldwide since it has millions of fan out there. We will keep you updated during the launch of the game.

Trial for food delivery drone in Malaysia will start in June

The drone is going to be the future of business. In another few years, drones will be delivering food to the public. Last week, Uber confirms they will start their Uber Eats food delivery via drone in San Diego this summer. Now we have been hearing, the food delivery drone business is coming to Malaysia too.

Futurise is the company which partners with the local drone company Average Drone. Cyberview who manages Futurise is a subsidiary of the Finance Ministry. Average Drone and Futurise is planning to start its food delivery drone in the area of Cyberjaya by end of June 2019. It is a 3 months trial period.

According to the Average Drone CEO Hamdee Hamdan, the delivery service is only available within 2km radius of the Futurise building. The food which you order will arrive within 12 minutes with additional RM2.50 of delivery fee. During this trial period, there will be 7 types of foods will be available such as noodles, rice, sandwiches, Malaysian kuih’s and fruits. He says probably, after the 3 months trial period, they might extend the food menu.

Other than that, Average Drone is also developing its own mobile app for food order. At this moment the app is in the final draft stage. The drone which Average Drone manufactures for the food delivery service is called “Express Food”. It has six propellers and it can make food delivery with loads of up to 800g only. The drone even can delivery during rainy days too. However, it depends on how heavy the rain is.

The CEO of Average Drone says only if the response is good, they will modify the drone to support the weight for up to 3kg.

In conclusion, one day we can expect to have fast food deliveries too via drone. This is a good effort between these two entities.

How many of you are still using Streamyx in your residential area? Comment down below. The broadband option we can think of is either copper wires or fibre optics. In most of the countries around the world, fibre optics has been used by most of the people living in the urban area. Unfortunately, in Malaysia there are still more than 226,000 Streamyx subscribers are residing in the non-Unifi area who are still using copper-based broadband.

In order to solve this issue, YTL Communications is currently testing a new technology called GigaWire. It is a new technology which is able to deliver the speed of a fibre optics on the copper solution. According to YTL Communications, this technology will not require any additional rewiring. The main thing it requires is a network switch in the high-rise building and a new set of routers in your home.

After launching Terragraph in Penang, YTL Communications is running the GigaWire test in Penang, KL, and Genting Highlands. According to YTL Communications, the download speed is able to shoot up to 876Mbps. That is crazy fast for a network running in a copper-based solution.

Is GigaWire a good choice?

GigaWire is able to provide fibre optics speed but YTL says it is better to rollout GigaWire via Terragraph. This is because Terragraph is able to provide 1.7Gbps of network speed in Penang. According to their current roadmap, by the end of 2019, they are planning to increase the network speed of Terragraph to 4.6Gbps. This could be possible by using the latest chipset by Qualcomm. This means the network provider such as TM does not require to lay physical cables. It is also easy to roll out to the consumers.

The GigaWire technology was launched back in 2016. This technology is up and running in many countries including the United States and South Korea. The GigaWire technology is based on the ITU-T Gigabit Home Networking (G.hn) standard. Watch the video below to get the glimpse of GigaWire technology.

Everywhere you go, the most secure phones in the market are always the iPhone. iPhone ‘was’ the most secure phones until a few days ago an Israeli forensic company called Cellebrite says they can perform a full file system extraction on any iOS device.

Apart from iOS devices, the company says that they can even unlock other Android devices from different smartphone manufacturers. Remember the 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attack? The FBI says they were able to unlock Syed Rizwan Farook’s iPhone by using secret software. Now, the rumors say the FBI uses Cellebrite’s UFED Premium software to unlock the terrorist iPhone in 2016.

Do you have to worry about it?

Stop worrying about it if you are a normal civilian. In order for the Cellebrites technology to work the software requires your actual physical access to the device. Other than that, this tool is available for law enforcement agencies and military only. The law enforcement and military will only use the Cellebrite’s tool to keep the nation safe from terrorist.

A few years ago, US law enforcement has discussed with Apple to create a backdoor for iOS devices. However, Apple CEO, Tim Cook is against the idea. He explains if the backdoor is exposed to other government agencies around the world, it will completely compromise Apple’s iOS devices.

The Cellebrite software is able to bypass the iOS passcode and perform full file system extraction. By performing this action, the tool is able to gain all the access to the third party app data, chat conversations, emails and also deleted content. This includes even if you delete the data from the iPhone permanently.

In conclusion, if this software is available to the general publics many people might misuse this tool. We believe it is better for this tool to belong to the law enforcement and military agencies.

After watching the tragic moment from Samsung, Huawei says it will delay the launch of its foldable smartphone, Huawei Mate X. Previously, Huawei plans to launch its first foldable smartphone on June. Now, Huawei is delaying the launch of Mate X to September. This will give ample time for Huawei to continue doing additional testing to the device.

Two months ago, before Samsung launches the Galaxy Fold, it gave few units to a few of the tech influencers for the review. During this period they found that there is a huge issue with its display. In order to avoid this issue, Huawei spokesperson told CNBC that Huawei is taking extra precautions steps before launching the Mate X to the consumer. The spokesperson told CNBC that Huawei doesn’t want to launch a product which will destroy their reputation.

Although the United States government bans the Chinese company, Huawei is very confident that Mate X is not affected by the ban. The spokesperson says Huawei Mate X will be running on Android operating system. This is because the Mate X is launched before the United States government add Huawei company into its Entity List.

Rovr is similar to a petrol station, however, it is more mobile where it will be a convenience for vehicle drivers.

Back in October 2018, Petronas introduces Rovr as a pilot program. Since then, via Rovr more than one million liters of fuel have been delivered to both customers and business users. After receiving a lot of positive feedback from their business-to-business (B2B) customers, Rovr is ready to provide more to other entities says the CEO of Petronas Dagangan Berhad, Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin. According to him, this will be an effective way to refuel businesses that own vans and trucks.
