The most used navigation app which most of us used is Google’s Map app and Waze app. Most of the drivers prefer to use the Waze app since it can display the detail information of the road conditions. However, sometimes when we stuck in the traffic we might feel stress by looking at the red taillights. Now, Google is rolling the Google Assistant feature to the Waze on Android phones in English.
At this moment, this feature is only available for users in the US only. Google will roll out this feature globally at a later time. What’s about Google Assistant in Waze? This might be your questions now. Well other than looking into the traffics, you can tell the Google Assistant to play your favorite music while you are driving. You can even send a message to your friends via hands-free. All of these features can be done without leaving the Waze navigation screen.
Other than that, we all know Waze is famous for reporting potholes and reporting police nearby. Now, you can simply say “Hey Google, report traffic” or “Hey Google, avoid tolls” and the rest will be taken care of by the Google Assistant. You can continue focusing your eyes on the road rather than on the screen.
In conclusion, by introducing this feature, Google believes the drivers can get less distracted and focus on the road mainly. This will help also to reduce road accidents. In Malaysia, we might get this update later this year probably. Once Google rolls out this update globally, we can give it a try too.
It has been one month since the United States government add Huawei into its Entity List. Google is the first tech company to stop providing software and security update. A few days ago, Google starts to argue with the US government stating that banning Huawei might lead to a threat to US national security. According to the XDA Developers, Huawei has started to invite trusted app developers to publish their apps on the Huawei’s AppGallery.
Few of the developers received the email as follow:
Subject: [OFFICIAL] Invitation to join Huawei AppGallery
Cher XXX team,
– In the last 2 years, Huawei shipped over 350M phones, about half of them in western markets.
– All Huawei phones have our official AppStore “AppGallery” preloaded globally, with 270 million monthly active users.
– We realized that your great Android App XXX is not yet published in our AppGallery.
– In order to guarantee a smooth usage of your App for our users, Huawei is committed to provide you with full support, to help you publish your App into AppGallery.
– We would therefore like to invite you to join our 560k developers community for free, in our Huawei Developer portal.
If you notice on the email on the left, Huawei is trying to convince the app developers by saying the AppGallery has 270 million monthly active users. Other than that, Huawei also claims their Developer Portal has 560,000 members. We are not sure whether these pieces of information is actually true.
As we all know Huawei is developing their own operating system called ArkOS. We can expect this operating system by next year. If Huawei’s AppGallery didn’t work well, Huawei has other alternative plans too. According to a report from Bloomberg, Huawei might be in the midst of negotiation with a 3rd party app store called Aptoide.
The only part we are curious of is what about apps made by the US developers? Is Huawei will be including these apps into their alternative app store? The writer of Ars Technica has revealed a small piece of information on his twitter account. He says that only two out of fifteen famous apps on the Google Play Store will be available to the Huawei devices. The remaining thirteen apps are made by the US developers.
This is what the Play Store top free apps would look like with the US apps crossed out.
In conclusion, if you notice at the image above, the two apps which will make its way to Huawei’s app store will be Spotify and TikTok. Users might not be able to download apps such as Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat. This is going to impact the end-users a lot. Let’s wait and watch how Huawei is going to tackle this issue.

We are sure many of you might be waiting for Samsung to launch the Galaxy Fold since April onwards. Unfortunately, Samsung has to delay the launch of the Galaxy Fold due to the screen issue where the protective layer damages the Galaxy Fold screen.
After the issue is confirm by Samsung, Samsung delays the launch of this foldable smartphone. Now it appears that Samsung could launch the Galaxy Fold on July. This was first reported by Samsung high-ranking official on the South Korean tech news website. According to this person, Samsung is gearing up to have a media conference in June. At this event, Samsung will release to the media in advance.
Originally, this device is planned to release to the end-users on April 26 but before the launch date, Samsung has given away a few of the Galaxy Fold to the tech influencers. When the tech influencers such as MKBHD started to use the Galaxy Fold, they notice there is a problem with the phone display.
According to iFixit, the gaps around the hinges might allow the dirt to enter into the device easily.
We believe, after two months delay, Samsung has made an improvement to the Galaxy Fold to overcome the display issue. Samsung is adding an additional protective layer to the main body to overcome the screen damage issue.
In conclusion, we can expect Samsung to be on sale starting July onwards. Previously, Samsung Malaysia announces the Galaxy Fold will be arriving to store on 3rd May 2019. Since the delay, Malaysians can start to purchase the Galaxy Fold from the telco providers starting either in July or August.
In case you are planning to purchase a new Huawei smartphone you have to think twice before purchasing it. This is because Reuters has reported Facebook has ban Huawei too.
Huawei is not allowed to pre-install Facebook apps in its smartphone. This includes WhatsApp and Instagram. According to Facebook, the current Huawei devices which have been shipped out from the factory will still be able to pre-install with Facebook apps except for the devices which have not left the factory will be affected.
Other than Facebook apps, most of the smartphone usually pre-installs other popular apps such as Twitter and Booking.com. Most of the Huawei devices always comes with those pre-installed apps. However, at this moment, neither Twitter nor Booking.com has given their comments regarding this matter.
For now, Facebook has declined to comment on when the suspension will take place. You still can purchase Huawei smartphones until 19th August 2019 even Facebook bans Huawei. You can download the apps directly from the Google Play Store until the end of the 90 days temporary license expires.
Recap On The Entity List
In the mid of the May 2019, the US government has added Huawei name into its Entity List. After that, Huawei has been suspended from doing business with various tech companies in the US. Then, to give Huawei a small gap to breathe, the US government provides Huawei with a 90 days temporary license. As a result, Google has agreed to provide software and security updates until the end of 19th August 2019.
In conclusion, people who are not active in any of these social networks might be happy with the Facebook decision because their phone storage might not take up for these apps. However, people who are heavy users might have to head over to the Google Play Store to download these apps until the end of 90 days period. After 90 days, Huawei needs to come with its own plan to survive in the smartphone business.
