Daniel Ives who is an analyst in Wedbush says Apple is expected to launch its 3rd generation AirPods by end of this year.

Statement from Daniel Ives, Wedbush:

Lastly from a new product perspective, we are expecting AirPods new version 3 to be launched towards year-end ahead of holiday season with these AirPods expected to have some design enhancements and will be waterproof with higher price points.

A higher price AirPods

As he says, there could be a new design for the AirPods and that could probably sell for a higher price because of these improvements. For now, we are not sure whether the third generation AirPods could be either water-resistant or waterproof. We might need to wait for Apple to confirm that for us.

It’s really surprising to see Apple launching updated version of a same product within a year. However two days ago, Apple launches a new version of both the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. This proves Apple might be launching the AirPods 3 within few months launching the AirPods 2.

In conclusion, we also can expect Apple to launch different colors of the AirPods by end of this year. Can we see a black AirPods during this holiday season? Let us know in the comment section below.

Apple lowers the price of the MacBook Pro

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Again Apple lowers down the price of its another series of MacBook after the MacBook Air. Apple introduces a new MacBook Pro with a lower price than the previous model. In the previous model of MacBook Pro, there isn’t Touch Bar and Touch ID in the 13″ MacBook Pro. This is because it is the entry model of the MacBook Pro series. Now, Apple is making a huge change on this entry model. Apple finally includes both the Touch Bar and the Touch ID in all the MacBook Pro lineups as a standard feature.

A quite number of changes in the hardware

Apple’s 2019 13″ MacBook Pro is now powered by the 1.4GHz quad-core 8th gen Intel Core i5 processor. Additionally, it is able to turbo boost to up to 3.9GHz. Apple’s previous MacBook Pro model is only powered by a 2.3GHz dual-core 7th gen Intel processor. This is a huge improvement from Apple.

The new MacBook Pro is fully customizable where you can upgrade the RAM up to 16GB and SSD storage up to 2TB. You can even upgrade your processor to 1.7GHz quad-core 8th gen Core i7 processor. However, the price will surely increase when you made these upgrades. The MacBook Pro also comes with the True Tone technology which exists in the new MacBook Air.

MacBook Pro Pricing and Availability

You can buy the 13″ MacBook Pro for RM5,499. This model comes with the 1.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor. For the storage wise, it has 128GB SSD storage with 8GB RAM. If you compare the pricing between the previous model, its RM433 cheaper than the previous model. Additionally, this new model has a Touch ID and Touch Bar whereas the previous model neither have the Touch Bar nor the Touch ID. Personally, this seems a good price for us.

At this moment, the 13″ MacBook Pro with 1.4GHz quad-core i5 Core processor is not available for delivery. However, you can walk in to any Apple’s Authorised Resellers and purchase this new edition of MacBook Pro.

In conclusion, this back-to-school offer is applicable for the Malaysian students also. For students, the base model price is RM5,099. Students can visit the Education page for more information.

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Now is the right time for you to buy Apple MacBook Air. This is because Apple has just started its back-to-school sales in the US and Europe. Interestingly, this time Malaysian students also are eligible to get these additional discounts. The new MacBook Air is now priced at RM4,699. Apple has also improved the display by using the True Tone Retina Display panel.

Any changes to the specs?

The updated MacBook Air still has the same specs as the last years model. It still runs on a 1.6GHz dual-core 8th gen Core i5 processor. For the RAM wise, by default comes with an 8GB DDR3 RAM. Apple allows you to upgrade it up to 16GB RAM with the additional price of RM880. Other than that, the base model comes with a 128GB SSD storage and you can upgrade it up to 1TB.

The main changes for the MacBook Air is the True Tone technology. The previous model doesn’t support True Tone technology. True Tone is a display technology which will automatically adjust the white balance of a display to match the color temperature of your environment. Your viewing experience will be totally different by using True Tone technology. It seems this technology will make your web pages and email look as if its printed pages.

Other hardware still remains the same such as the 3rd gen butterfly keyboard and the Touch ID. For the Touch ID security, Apple remains using its Apple T2 Security Chip which offers on-the-fly encryption for all your documents. Moreover, the new MacBook Air also supports macOS Catalina which is Apple next version of its macOS release. Check out our article on the feature of macOS Catalina.

In conclusion, if you are interested to purchase the new MacBook Air, you can purchase it from the Apple Online Store. If you are a student, you can visit the official student page for the pricing details.

Reading Time: 3 minutes read

Terragraph is a technology which was developed by Facebook back in 2016. Today, Penang is the first state in Malaysia to integrate Terragraph network technology. Terragraph is network technology which is able to provide gigabit speeds in areas without fibre optic cable. It is a technology which doesn’t require the telco providers such as TM to lay fibre cables in the ground.

During the beginning of March this year, YTL Communications conducted a trial run of the Terragraph network in Georgetown Heritage sites. After four months, YTL Communications has announced that it has completed the trial run of the Terragraph network in Georgetown. This whole trial period, the public is able to access to the gigabit speed WiFi for free over 50 locations in Georgetown.

From its statistics, YTL Communications says there are more than 19,000 unique visitors with 65% of return user rates. The Terragraph WiFi network is able to offer up to 170Mbps of download speed and up to 160Mbps of upload speed. This is the fastest network for public WiFi. According to YTL Communications, it has deployed a total of 472 Terragraph nodes around the Georgetown area. This makes Penang be the world’s largest Terragraph network says Facebook.

Extending Terragraph network for business

Other than that, YTL Communications also connects to 12 local businesses, NGO’s and government offices around the Georgetown area using the Terragraph WiFi. This allows the staffs and business people to access the gigabit-speed wireless network for free. YTL Communications says it seems the speed is 16x faster than their previous network provider.

Recently, YTL Communications also introduces GigaWire technology into the Terragraph network trial period. Gigawire is the latest technology which able to provide fibre-like speed through a normal copper wire. YTL says that using the GigaWire technology, they are able to deliver speed up to 867Mbps. This result is taken from a test in a few building in Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Genting Highlands

In conclusion, as now the Terragraph trial period is officially over, soon we can expect YTL Communications to expand its horizon outside of Georgetown area. If you haven’t tried this gigabit-speed network, then you can visit the hotspot locations to try this network. Terragraph and GigaWire also could possibly be the best alternative solution to solve Streamyx user coverage issues. This is because rewiring wouldn’t be necessary with this latest technology.

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

7-Eleven is the world’s most famous convenient store especially in Japan. It has more than 20,000 7-Eleven stores in Japan only. Even in Malaysia, most of us always find for a nearby 7-Eleven store to buy something. As being the most used convenience store, 7-Eleven Japan launches a new mobile app called 7Pay on 1st of July. This app allows its customers to make purchases at any 7-Eleven convenience store.

However, two days later after the app launches, the company has to shut it down due to hackers stealing $500,000 from the users. According to the statement from 7-Eleven Japan, more than 900 customers account has been accessed by hackers and a total of ¥55 million (RM2,097,012.50) has been stolen. However, for its mistake, 7-Eleven Japan has given its promise to give compensation for the affected users.

What is a 7Pay app?

7-Eleven launches the 7Pay app which works as the mobile wallet system. It allows the user to make the payment by simply scanning the barcode at the counter. The user has to add either their debit card or credit card into the app. It’s almost similar to the Touch n’ Go e-Wallet or the GrabPay. In the overseas, the 7Pay is almost similar to the Walmart Pay.

Since there is a vulnerability in the app, hackers were able to hack into the app easily by resetting any of the 7Pay user’s password. All the main information to reset the user’s password is the user’s email address, phone number, date of birth. With this information, the hacker is able to send a password reset link to any email address.

In conclusion, the 7Pay app has been completely shut down and once the security flaw is fixed then 7-Eleven Japan might relaunch it again. You have to beware of what information you are sharing to the Internet.
