OpenAI Five wins against Dota2 world champions

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Have you ever expect artificial intelligence (AI) to win against human especially in games? We have a new world champion for the Dota2, which is not a human but it is an AI. The OpenAI Five system defeats two of the world champion teams easily. The match which carried out on the weekend proves that AI can really play and win against the world champions.

OpenAI shares the details on its blog post regarding the game-playing agent. Although this is the fifth version of the system, OpenAI says, it is still using the same neural network however this round it goes into deeper training.

In total, the current version of OpenAI Five has consumed 800 petaflops/s-days and experienced about 45,000 years of Dota self-play over 10 real-time months (up from about 10,000 years over 1.5 real-time months as of The International), for an average of 250 years of simulated experience per day.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time an RL [reinforcement learning] agent has been trained using such a long-lived training run.

We can easily say the one of the world’s most complex game is Dota2. This is because it requires a lot of thinking skill to play it. Other than that, players have to control five of their “heroes” in a large map at a given time is difficult. The OpenAI Five system works as a team. Usually, if the AI plays when there is an interruption from the human, it has very high chances to misbehave. Surprisingly, the system was able to play pretty well without any issues.

Are you interested to take on the AI by yourself? Why not give it a try! OpenAI Five is launching its arena, where Dota2 players are welcome to play with or against the OpenAI Five system. Players need to sign up before the due date. Players can start to play starting from Thursday evening 6 PM until the end of Sunday, Pacific time. Malaysians planning to join the game, make sure you register yourself before April 19. This is because according to Malaysian time the game starts on Friday 9 AM onwards.

In conclusion, AI is exactly the future of technology. Sooner you can expect AI wherever you go.

Facebook is combining News Feed and Stories into one

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

Facebook introduces the Stories feature in 2017. After two years, Facebook might be planning to combine the Stories and the News Feed feature into a single feed like in Snapchat Stories. According to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who is the first person to discover this interface change says the interface is only available in the Facebook for Android.

At this moment, the Facebook Stories feature is at the top of the app whereas, the News Feed is available in a separate interface where you have to scroll down infinitely to view updates. What we can see from this new design is both the Stories and News Feed will appear in the same interface. Below tweet shows the new interface design changes.

When Facebook launches Facebook Stories in 2017, it was not popular until 2018. On 2018, Facebook says that Facebook and Stories have 300 million active users. One of the Facebook spokesperson said that this new feature is not testing it publicly as for now. Facebook itself is not sure yet whether this will be part of the public release. It’s just part of the Facebook experiment only.

In conclusion, this could be realized as a feature some day. It all depends on the Facebook test team. We might need to wait longer to confirm this new feature. This is because Facebook sometimes might claim it is a bug after a few months. This happens for Instagram last year.

Last month, Facebook rolls out the Dark Mode for Messenger in certain countries. Today, Facebook announces it is rolling the feature for Messenger globally. Previously, this feature is hidden behind the Easter egg where users have to send the moon emoji in order to activate it. Now that would not be necessary. Users can start to enable this feature by toggling from the Messenger settings.

The main reasons, applications are changing its display to Dark Mode is because it will reduce the glares of the screen. This enables the user to use their smartphone under low-light situations without straining their eyes a lot. According to Google, enabling the Dark Mode feature on smartphones can save battery usage as it uses less power to display it.

There are some users who prefers to use the Dark Mode feature as it looks cool. It all depends on the user preference. We have started to see many major apps companies such as Twitter and Microsoft are enabling the Dark Mode feature on its applications.

In conclusion, introducing this Dark Mode feature is really good especially tech companies such as Facebook. This is because billion of people are using Facebook daily especially under a low-light situation. The blue light from the screen can cause severe disease. Spotify is one of the world’s most popular music streaming platform. According to Marketing Magazine, Malaysians are spending an average of 148 minutes per day listening to music on Spotify. Today Malaysia will be the fourth country to receive this application. However, Spotify currently only allows Android devices to download this application from the Google Play Store. Apart from that, Spotify is also urging users to give their feedback on the usage and also request new features for the app in the Spotify community page.

What is Spotify Lite?

As the name itself says, “Lite” is the lighter version of the current Spotify app. This means this app is mainly for users who are having low-end smartphones with slower internet connections.

The main key difference between these two apps is the amount of data being consumed is lesser. Other than the size of the app is also lesser to the current Spotify app. However, there are few downsides using the lighter version. First, users would not be able to download songs for offline usage. Moreover, the high-quality setting is also disabled due to high data consuming. Users can set their monthly cap of data usage by the app at 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB, or 3GB.

In conclusion, if you a music listener who cares about your data usage, then you should give a try of the Spotify Lite app. Sharing some of your cool ideas to Spotify could make Spotify implement the feature one day on the Spotify Lite app.
