Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro is officially announced today. Some of you might be surprise and some of you might be disappointed with the iPhone 13 Pro launch. No matter what, Apple surely is going to hit its target sales once it goes for sale starting October onwards. Especially in country such as Malaysia, many of you will be more interested on how to buy the 128GB storage option iPhone 13 Pro.

Thanks to Picodi.com for sharing us the data titled “Working days needed to afford a new iPhone”. According to their data, they have shared how many days we need to work in average to buy the latest iPhone 13 Pro.

Data from Picodi.com

The current iPhone 13 Pro is priced at RM4,899 for the 128GB storage option. To be honest, RM4,899 is not cheap at all. We all need to work day and night in order to buy the latest iPhone 13 Pro. If you notice at the chart above, it clearly states that, Malaysians needs to work for at least 30.3 days in order to buy their first iPhone. This means, their need to use their whole 30.3 days salary to use it to buy the 128GB iPhone 13 Pro.

If you want to buy iPhone in less than 10 days working, then probably you might need to work in countries such as Switzerland, United States, Australia, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, UAE, Ireland, Germany and Finland. Especially, if you work in Switzerland for just 4.4 days, you can immediately walk-in to the nearest Apple Store and get your iPhone 13 Pro.

Apart from Malaysia, countries such as Turkey or Philipines, they might need to work close to 100 days and then use their whole salary to get the latest iPhone 13 Pro. According to their statistics, the net wages were obtained using local salary calculators. Then the monthly salaries were divided by 21 (which is the average number of working days in a month). However, in other countries such as Australia, who get paid weekly. This will be divided by 5.

Talking about Malaysians, last year iPhone 12 Pro which is also priced around RM4,899 too. But still Malaysians need to work 29.1 days in order to buy the iPhone 12 Pro.

In conclusion, the iPhone 13 Pro is expensive and Malaysians need to use their hard earn money to buy it. To know more about the iPhone 13 Pro, check out our latest post here.

What makes the iPhone 13 Pro better than iPhone 13?

Reading Time: 3 minutes read

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 13 today and it will be officially available in Malaysia on October. Now, I would like to share with you the iPhone 13 Pro models. What’s make the Pro model better than the iPhone 13?. Let’s dive in.

Similar to every year, the Pro model iPhones always have better CPU performance and GPU performance in comparison with its competitors. Apple didn’t really mention who is its competition during the event. In comparison with the iPhone 12 Pro models, the iPhone 13 Pro finally comes with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Check out the iPhone 13 Pro specifications below.

iPhone 13 Pro Technical Specifications

First of all, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max features a 6.1″ and 6.7″ Super Retina XDR OLED display. For the first time ever, Apple is bringing its ProMotion display technology from iPad to the iPhone 13 Pro. With the ProMotion feature, both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max supports a 120Hz adaptive screen refresh rate. This means it does not has a fixed 120Hz refresh rate. But the screen refresh rate changes according to the usage. For example, when we try to read an article and scroll slowly, probably you will get just a 30Hz to 60Hz refresh rate. Whereas, the 120Hz kicks off when you scroll continuously on a long article.

For the camera wise, Apple has upgraded the camera sensors of all the triple-camera setups. Even though it still consists of all 12MP cameras similar to iPhone 12 Pro, but the camera sensors are bigger now. It has a 12MP wide camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. If you notice the image below, it shows that the size of the camera apertures has become bigger compared to its predecessor iPhone 12 Pro. The telephoto camera even comes with 3x optical zoom.

On the camera software, the iPhone 13 Pro comes with a new feature called the cinematic mode. Using this feature you can now shoot cinematic shots like how you watch it on the movies. You may check out the demo in this video below. Including the upcoming ProRes video recording feature which will support 4K 30fps also features in the iPhone 13 Pro. Not to forget, for the first time ever Apple has jumped into macro photography as well. Using the ultra-wide camera, you can take macro shots at a 2cm distance from the object.

Under the hood, the iPhone 13 Pro runs on Apple’s latest A15 Bionic chip. This chip comes with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU. Apple says that this chip is 50% faster than its competition. As usual, it even comes with a 16-core neural engine that is capable to perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. Imagine using the ProRes video feature requires heavy operations. Only with this A15 Bionic chip, Apple has made it possible.

For the battery wise, Apple claims that the iPhone 13 Pro will provide you with all-day battery life. The iPhone 13 Pro Max can last 2.5 hours longer than the current iPhone 12 Pro Max. Whereas the iPhone 13 Pro model can last 1.5 hours longer than the current iPhone 12 Pro. As usual, the exact battery specs is not revealed by Apple during the announcement. Storage-wise, Apple has finally max it out at up to 1TB.

The iPhone 13 Pro will be available in four colours which are Sierra Blue, Silver, Gold and Graphite. To know about the pricing check out my post here.

iPhone 13 will be available in Malaysia starting October 8

All the rumours about the iPhone 13 series can be put to rest. Apple finally announces iPhone 13 series today during its Apple Event which happened today. Even though the number 13 is unlucky to the western world, yet Apple has agreed to stick with 13 instead of 12s or 14. As usual, Apple has announced four models of iPhones which are iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

I am sure by now, there would be hundreds of memes since the launch. But for now, let’s just talk about the pricing and the release date. The iPhone 13 models will be available to Malaysians for pre-order starting 1st of October 2021 onwards. And it will be available to purchase starting the 8th of October 2021 onwards.

The all-new iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 storage starts from 128GB up to 512GB. The mini iPhone starts from RM3,399 whereas the iPhone 13 is priced at RM3,899. As expected Apple has already removed the 64GB storage option from its list. Talking about the Pro models, both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max storage starts from 128GB up to 1TB. The 128GB iPhone 13 Pro is priced at RM4,899. Well, the iPhone 13 Pro Max price starts from RM5,299. This is the first time, Apple has added 1TB storage options for the Pro model iPhone 13.

Just to give you a heads up that if you are planning to buy the 1TB iPhone 13 Pro, you need to cash out at least RM7,200. Are you ready to sell your kidneys? 🙂

In conclusion, there are not many changes in the iPhone 13 models in terms of design. Probably, the only change is the iPhone 13 camera placement. Well, TBH, my advice to you guys is, not to buy the iPhone 13 series. Instead, you can get the iPhone 12 Pro models where the price should be reduced after launching officially in Malaysia. For more info, you can visit Apple’s official page for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro.

Xiaomi Smart Glasses is a hundred times better than Google Glass

Today, Xiaomi unveils its first-ever smart glass called the Xiaomi Smart Glasses. Smart glasses are not something new to us. Back in 2013, Google unveils its smart glass technology as well. We were jaw dropped by the futuristic announcement from Google. However, later on, Google had to scrap the Google Glass due to some issues. Check out the video below to see the features of Google Glass.

Then, now comes another futuristic smart glass from Xiaomi. First of all, the Xiaomi Smart Glasses is a hundred times better than the Google Glass. The main reason is the sleek design. It doesn’t look too filmy. It looks more realistic. The second reason is the features. The Xiaomi Smart Glasses have a lot of features. According to TheVerge, this smart glass does not need a constant phone connection at all.

The Xiaomi Smart Glasses even has a MicroLED display in it. The display size is just 0.13″ only. According to Xiaomi, it is roughly the size of a grain of rice only. Imagine with such a small display, it has a peak brightness of 2 million nits. Yet, it still does not affect your eyes and it will provide you with a larger display for your eyes to see.

Check out the video below to know more about Xiaomi Smart Glasses.

Under the hood, it runs on a quad-core Arm processor with a 5MP camera. Using the Xiaomi Smart Glasses, you can use them for navigation, live translation, notifications display as well as making phone calls. Xiaomi even says there are chances that this device could replace your smartphone.

Overall, Xiaomi spokesperson told TheVerge that this smart glass will not be launching anytime soon. This is just a concept product that Xiaomi could consider as a consumer product in the near future.

No matter what type of privacy issue hits WhatsApp, it is still strong when it comes to the end-to-end encrypted messaging platforms. Billions of active users are sending WhatsApp messages to their loved ones. And some of them are still using quite older phones to send messages. Starting November onwards, WhatsApp has confirmed that these 43 smartphones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. If your smartphone is part of this list, then I think it’s time for you to change your smartphone.

Here is the list of smartphone which is not supported by WhatsApp starting November onwards:

  • Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core and Galaxy Ace 2.
  • LGLucid 2, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus F5, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L3 II, Optimus L7, Optimus L7 II Dual, Optimus L7 II, Optimus F6, Enact , Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F3, Optimus L4 II, Optimus L2 II, Optimus Nitro HD and 4X HD and Optimus F3Q.

  • Huawei Ascend Mate and Ascend D2Alcatel: One Touch Evo 7
  • Apple iPhone SE, 6S, and 6S Plus

I am not really sure about other smartphones, but I am more concerned with Apple iPhone users who will lose access to the WhatsApp app. There are still a lot of people who are using iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Some of my relatives as well are still using these models of iPhones.

Exactly on the 1st of November 2021, these 43 smartphones will not be able to access WhatsApp. According to the WhatsApp FAQ page, it confirms that any Android phone which runs older than Android 4.0.4 will stop getting access to WhatsApp. Whereas, iPhone users, who are still using iOS 9 or older as well won’t be able to use WhatsApp on their phones.

In conclusion, I personally think it is the right time for you to change your existing smartphones if your phone model is part of these lists.

Apple confirms iPhone 13 launch event on September 14

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Welcome to Techtember (Tech September) where many companies will be launching their products. When it comes to September, you surely can expect Apple’s iPhone launch event. Yup, Apple has officially confirmed its upcoming iPhone 13 launch event which is slated to happen on 14th September 2021 at 10 AM PDT. That is around 1 AM in Malaysian time.

During this launch event, it is being speculated, that apart from the iPhone 13, Apple could be also announcing the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7. Similar to its previous events, this whole event will be a pre-recorded live stream event. This is where you can see Apple spends a lot on video production itself. Since it’s a live stream event, you can watch the full event on Apple’s official YouTube channel below.

Once Apple announces its upcoming event, Apple has even hidden an easter egg in the Apple logo as well. As long you have a newer iPhone, you can browse to Apple’s event page here using Safari. Then you need to click on it to activate the AR easter egg. It is quite fun actually. I have it tried on my iPhone and it seems to be cool and it looks like Apple has given us some clue as well. Check out my video below.

The first clue is, behind the Apple logo is fully dark. This means the Apple camera lens will have better Night Mode shots, especially its ultra-wide-angle camera lens. Besides that, with the AR easter egg feature, I was able to view the night sky with stars surrounding it. With this, they could be two possibilities Apple could unveil during the event. It is either the all-new astrophotography mode or the satellite communication feature. Once we have more details after the launch event I will share them here for you guys.

In conclusion, if you are planning to buy the iPhone 12 series smartphones now, please hold it on first. Wait until the Apple launch event and then you can decide it. The reason is, it is rumoured that there are slight chances for Malaysia to be part of the first wave countries too similar to last year. Anyways, stay tuned for more updates from us.

It has been long rumoured that U Mobile is working on launching its own fibre broadband similar to its competitors. Looks like the day is finally here. U Mobile has officially partnered with TNB subsidiary company, Allo to provide fibre nationwide. The interesting thing is the highest package 1GB is at RM149.50.

It sounds good right! But there is a catch in it. I will explain you later in this post. Almost similar to other fibre providers, the U Mobile fibre broadband plan starts from 100Mbps, 500Mbps and 1Gbps. The lowest package is priced at RM129 monthly. Whereas, both the 500Mbps and 1Gbps are priced at RM199 and RM299 respectively.

By partnering with Allo, U Mobile is able to make this possible. Allo is a network infrastructure provider which was acquired by TNB to provide fibre optics to outskirts areas. Especially, for the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP), Allo was appointed by TNB to provide fibre optics to the selected locations. The best part of this partnership is users will be able to get the same speed for the uploads as well. For instance, a user who signs up to the 1Gbps fibre broadband, they will get to enjoy 1Gbps download and upload speed.

Are you an existing U Mobile postpaid user? If yes, then you will be eligible for the 50% discount on your monthly internet bill. Do note this is only applicable for the first two years only. In case you terminate your contract within 24 months, then you will need to pay the termination fee of RM500. According to U Mobile, the RM149.50 discounted price is only applicable to users who are subscribed to P99 and P139 postpaid plans only. If you are having the GX68 postpaid plan, then you can only get a discount on the 100Mbps plan only.

You can head over to the U Mobile Fibre Broadband page to check on the coverage area. But it looks, for now, U Mobile fibre broadband will be available to limited areas in Melaka, Cyberjaya, Perak and Kedah. If you living in any of these locations check the coverage and subscribe to the all-new U Mobile fibre broadband.

The biggest UI change is coming to the MySejahtera app

Reading Time: 3 minutes read
Image from Astro Awani

It has been almost two years since our country Malaysia got affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This has caused many of us to stay at home and work from home. In order to move around, we are advised to take the vaccine which is being provided by the government. And all this while, all of our location check-in and vaccination details are being tracked on the MySejahtera app.

But, the question to be answered is, is the app really good for us? Especially, the new standard operating procedure (SOP) which says that we need to show our digital certificate after taking two doses of vaccine. At the same time, we need to continue to check in as well on the MySejahtera app whenever we walk into a store. To be honest this is seriously troublesome. Especially for the senior citizens, are having such a difficult situation to scan the QR code and then showing their digital vaccine certificate.

Surprisingly, the MySejahtera development team is hearing our feedback. This is because there are huge UI changes coming to the MySejahtera app. One of them is fixing the serious design problem as I mentioned above. Even though the design still needs more improvement, but this current design change fixes the problem where we need to check-in at the same time show our profile before entering a shop.

Thanks to our newly appointed Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who have shared this good news with us today. In his Twitter account, he has tweeted that, the MySejahtera team will be pushing a new build tonight with the latest design changes on the MySejahtera app. According to him, he believes these new changes will help us to live with COVID together.

Here’s the new UI change:

With these new design changes, you can easily check in to the location at the same time view your vaccination status. This means you don’t need to switch back to the profile tab to show the status manually. Honestly, this makes us feel more relieved rather than showing the profile tab each time entering a shop.

At the same time, Khairy has also shared another tweet regarding a new feature as well. It is a check out feature. Basically, it is a simple feature where once you check-in into a shop you need to tap on the checkout button as shown in the image above when you leave the shop. You won’t be needing to scan any QR codes during the checkout. Just a simple tap on the button will do. The main purpose is to improve contact tracing.

In conclusion, the new MySejahtera app update should be available on all platforms including Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store as well as Huawei App Gallery. Simply click the link above accordingly to update your MySejahtera app. Share with us your thoughts regarding the new UI change on the comment section below.
