Recently, Touch ‘n Go (TNG) Group and Shell Malaysia announced plans to expand the use of new cashless radio-frequency identification (RFID) solutions to 50% of Shell stations in Peninsular Malaysia within three years. They also predict that by the end of the year, 200 Shell stations nationwide will be equipped with the RFID fuel solutions.

TNG Group CEO Effendy Shahul Hamid stated that the solutions are currently available at 88 Shell stations across the country.

You can now make contactless payments at Shell stations with an app on your smartphones or engage with the point-of-sale system as payment is made via TNG RFID. Seow Lee Ming, Shell’s general manager mobility for Malaysia and Singapore, added that each Shell station currently has only two TNG RFID bays.

However, she also explains that “if the adoption rate is high, as well as the demand and traffic flow are good, we will have RFID solutions extensions at all bays in our stations.”

For your information, you will need a TNG RFID linked to your TNG eWallet account in order to use TNG RFID at Shell fuel stations. Then, all you need to do is simply park your vehicles in RFID-designated fueling bays. Your vehicles will be detected in seconds, and payment will be deducted automatically from your TNG eWallets.

For users who expect a new design with this one, you are out of luck since Samsung has decided to stay true to the design of previous Galaxy Flip and Galaxy Fold phones. However, there might be some new updates in regards to its software. For instance, fast charging, sending quick replies or making phone calls without opening up the phone or starting a video through the exterior camera.

The latest Z Fold 4 bears minimal changes from its predecessor. However, the 6.2-inch front display of the device has gradually grown in size compared to the original. In this version, it’s wider by 3 millimetres, allowing for a more natural phone experience when folded. Moreover, Samsung made significant changes to the camera array, including a new 50-megapixel main sensor.

The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro

Besides smartphones, Samsung also unboxed its latest collection of smartwatches namely the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. These watches use the same BioActive Sensor to track health and fitness as the previous Galaxy Watch 4 and they also included a body temperature sensor. Moreover, since Watch 4 has a shorter battery life, we can see the improvement in that regard with this new series. The Watch 5 has a 13% larger battery while the Watch 5 Pro has a 60% larger battery as compared to Watch 4.

The new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are 15% smaller than the original pair and supports 24-bit hi-fi audio over Bluetooth which will enhance the quality of the audio. Furthermore, the noise-cancelling earbuds now have 360 Audio. However, all the impressive updates come with an even greater price.

On top of all these revelations, Samsung also announced that they will opt for more eco-friendly practices by employing recycling materials for these newly launched products. For example, its foldable phone packaging is now made entirely of recycled paper and they also use recycled fishing nets as the parts of the materials for the Z-series foldable and the Galaxy Buds 2 pro.

Google Cloud Includes Malaysia As The New Region

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

The increasing demand for cloud services in the Asia Pacific has prompted Google to expand its Google Cloud regions which now include Malaysia as well as Thailand and New Zealand.

When they go live, these new regions will join the other 34 existing cloud regions around the world, 11 of which are in the Asia Pacific, delivering high-performance services on the cleanest cloud in the industry.

For those who are unfamiliar, Google Cloud provides compute, storage, networking, big data, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT) services, as well as cloud management, security, and developer tools. In addition, software developers, cloud administrators, and other enterprises IT professionals can access Google Cloud services via the public internet or a dedicated network connection.

The key controls will enable various public sectors or enterprises in Malaysia to maintain low latency and the highest security, data residency, and compliance standards, including specific data storage requirements.

These new cloud regions demonstrate Google’s unwavering commitment to supporting digital transformation not only in Malaysia but also throughout the Asia Pacific.

Oppo And OnePlus Smartphones Are Banned In Germany

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

In July, Nokia won a court case against Oppo and OnePlus. The telecommunication giant is well-known for supplying 5G technology equipment, particularly in Europe. The court found that Oppo and OnePlus were using 5G technology in their smartphones without paying for the necessary patents, basically stealing from Nokia. Due to this, OnePlus and Oppo phones have been banned from sale in Germany.

Source: Lowyat.net

Unfortunately, Oppo failed to appeal this decision and is now complying with the court order to officially stop all smartphone sales in the country. While existing OnePlus and Oppo customers in the region will continue to receive support and be able to use the devices without restriction, new customers will have to look elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Not only that, it seems that the OnePlus Germany website no longer allows customers to buy any smartphone even though the site looks like everything is functioning well. As pointed out by 9to5Google, OnePlus, the more popular brand in the country does not seem to have recognised the change and kind of concealing the fact that sales are suspended until further notice.

Although the dispute started in Germany, it is possible that it could spread across the rest of Europe in the future if no mutual agreement is achieved between Oppo and Nokia.

Whatsapp To Roll Out New Features For Its Privacy Campaign

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has rolled out a new WhatsApp privacy campaign by announcing three upcoming new features. The campaign will begin in India and the United Kingdom before spreading to the rest of the world.

The three features encompass leaving group chat silently, controlling who can see when you are online and preventing screenshots on view once messages.

Leave Groups Chat Silently

On the current version of Whatsapp, you might notice that every time you decide to leave a group chat, your action will notify others as well. While it’s good for some dramatic exit, it can also be a bit awkward or rude to let others see that you no longer want to be part of the group. So, this new feature allows you to leave silently and only group admins would know about it.

Controlling Who Can See When You Are Online

This feature lets you choose between showing your online status to everyone, no one, and contacts only, as well as hiding it from specific contacts. This might come in handy especially if you want to avoid a certain individual tracking your Whatsapp footprint.

Prevent Screenshots

Last year, WhatsApp introduced a “View Once” option for posting photos and videos, which disappear once viewed. Many people, however, complained that it was pointless for photos because anyone viewing it could take a screenshot. WhatsApp, like Snapchat, is now introducing a way to block this. Although there isn’t a system that alerts you when someone is taking a screenshot, the new privacy feature will pop up a message that says ‘This screenshot was blocked for added privacy’ to anybody who tries to do so.

On top of these privacy features, Whatsapp also recently announced that they altered the time limits for deleting a message from one hour to two hours.
