Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Recent leaks now shift the focus to the upcoming vivo X200 Pro. According to the leaked images shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, there is a lot to look out for. On its part, the vivo X200 Pro features a 50MP f/1.57 main camera. This camera will be equipped with a 1/1.28″ Sony sensor and is fabricated under a 22nm process. On top of that, it also comes with a 200MP f/2.67 periscope camera and a 1/1.4-inch sensor.

Nothing is known about a third rear camera at this point, but given that the X100 series offered a third camera, the X200 Pro probably will also. In addition to that, the leaks also suggest a phone powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip. It is rumored to be an improved version of the Dimensity 9300 used with the X100 series.

While there is not any date set in stone for the announcement, the previous X100 series showed up in November. Reasonable assumptions would be that the X200 line might come around this time, too. Everyone is waiting with bated breath as the launch window draws nearer.

New Google Gemini Experience: Overlay Features and more

Google has announced a major update to its Gemini experience during the recent Made by Google stream. The revamped Gemini now supports all functions previously available with the old Assistant. The new features aim to enhance user interaction and streamline processes.

Gemini now operates as an overlay rather than a fullscreen application. This change allows users to maintain their current context while interacting with Gemini. For those familiar with Circle to Search, this feature will feel intuitive. Users can now easily ask questions or generate images with Gemini and seamlessly integrate these images into Gmail or Google Messages.

However, not all Google software will be immediately compatible with Gemini. Extensions for Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Utilities are expected in the coming weeks. The Utilities extension will include phone functions such as the clock, flashlight, and volume control. All of this is powered by the Gemini Nano AI model, which performs most processing on-device.

Additionally, Google is rolling out Gemini Live, which enables real-time chat interactions. This feature, partially demoed via Project Astra, is not yet widely available. Access to Gemini Live requires a Gemini Advanced subscription, though pricing details have not been announced.

The revamped Gemini experience promises significant improvements, but its full range of functionalities will become available gradually. Keep an eye out for updates to make the most of these new features.

Gemini AI Struggles with Technical Issues at Live Demo

During the Made by Google event, Gemini AI had technical issues. The live demo failed twice, leaving presenter Dave Citron with a smile and the hopeful comment, “Let’s see the demo spirits are with us today.”

Initially, Citron asked Gemini to check his calendar for availability so he could see the show of Sabrina Carpenter. The AI briefly loaded before it reset. Citron repeated the efforts to get the same problem again, frustrating the audience.

The third time, a different device and Gemini worked. It checked his calendar, free when he wanted to catch Carpenter’s concert in San Francisco. Gemini took 20 seconds to check on availability.

Now that he was past the core problem, Citron told Gemini to set a reminder and add an item to the shopping list. Gemini AI set the reminder on tickets without a hitch and added “espresso” to the shopping list quite easily.

Although it had faced some glitches initially, it worked to quite an extent once it got up and running. The clear potential, and challenge, that AI technology has in real-time situations is brought out in the demo.

Google users might have been expecting an announcement about Android 15. The newest spec sheet tells a different story, however. New generations of the Google Pixel 9 series will come out of the box with Android 14. This includes the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google Pixel Android 14

This is sort of an unusual decision from Google—quite outside their norm. Traditionally, new Pixel models have been launched with the freshest version of the Android OS. Android 14 made its way out in October last year. So, Android 15 will likely be announced later this fall.

The Pixel 9 phones will still be powered by Android 14, though. The OS is now in the phase of its second public beta. We have already seen some features that Android 15 may provide. However, the new Pixel phones do come with a variety of AI-powered features.

Android 14

These AI features will be available when the phones hit the market next week. Google is eyeing to offer more sophistication through these new models. The new phones promise an enhanced user experience with innovative technologies.

While the Pixel 9 won’t come loaded with Android 15, a package of cool new features is in store. This delay in the OS update reflects a departure from the normal release schedule that Google has been following. A large chunk of new AI features will now make their way to the upcoming user devices.

Apple’s New Requirement for Patreon

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Now, Apple is demanding that Patreon add an in-app purchase system for iOS apps. By November, all Patreon memberships on iOS must be put on subscription-based status. As this change is forcing creators to alter the form in which they offer their content and the manner of collection, the App Store does not support the per-creation plans. So, by November 2025, the transition of Patreon will finally be completed.

Patreon

Now, Patreon is embarking on a 16-month migration to move all memberships to subscriptions. This move reflects how lots of control comes from Apple for transactions handled by apps. Apple will now take a 30 percent commission on all subscription sales on iOS starting in November. This has already been the policy for in-app purchases on Patreon since early 2024.

Patreon has developed a pricing tool for housekeeping of the after-effects on the creators. It allows setting higher prices for the iOS App while maintaining other rates the same. Another feature can disable it if one prefers a consistent price across all platforms. The flexibility tries to reduce the financial blow of Apple’s new policy.

Patreon

The move to subscription-only plans will change how creators relate to their patrons. This will also further underline Apple’s deep control over digital commerce on iOS. Creators will have to bend over backward to hold on to their revenues and quality of service.

Fundamentally, this means that Patreon will be compelled to shift to subscription-based plans on iOS, hence a change that will affect both creators and users, further drawing pictures of the tight control by Apple over the business models based on apps and transaction fees.
