Google users might have been expecting an announcement about Android 15. The newest spec sheet tells a different story, however. New generations of the Google Pixel 9 series will come out of the box with Android 14. This includes the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

This is sort of an unusual decision from Google—quite outside their norm. Traditionally, new Pixel models have been launched with the freshest version of the Android OS. Android 14 made its way out in October last year. So, Android 15 will likely be announced later this fall.

The Pixel 9 phones will still be powered by Android 14, though. The OS is now in the phase of its second public beta. We have already seen some features that Android 15 may provide. However, the new Pixel phones do come with a variety of AI-powered features.

These AI features will be available when the phones hit the market next week. Google is eyeing to offer more sophistication through these new models. The new phones promise an enhanced user experience with innovative technologies.

While the Pixel 9 won’t come loaded with Android 15, a package of cool new features is in store. This delay in the OS update reflects a departure from the normal release schedule that Google has been following. A large chunk of new AI features will now make their way to the upcoming user devices.
