MacBook latest software update extends battery lifespan

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple MacBooks are one of the best laptop Apple has ever designed. Nowadays, most of the people prefer to use the MacBook instead of the PC laptop. Especially, business person or celebrities are using the MacBook. MacBook has been one of the most crucial product. Due to that, the battery life is important. The only problem with the MacBook would be the battery lifespan.

Apple has recently rolled out a new software update especially for the MacBooks. Apple believes that with this update, the MacBook battery lifespan could be increased. Part of this software update Apple launch a new feature called “Battery Health Management”. Do note that this software update has been rolled out to the developers only.

It looks like Apple will be rolling out this software update to the public by the end of this year. This could be part of the macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update. According to Apple, the “Battery Health Management” feature could increase the MacBook battery lifespan by reducing the rate of chemical ageing. This means it won’t be charging the MacBook battery up to 100%.

Most of the smartphones nowadays does not allow you to charge your smartphone up to 100%. Even Apple latest iPhones, the battery always stays at 80% most of the time. Most of us always tend to charge our smartphones or laptops at night and sleep. So even the battery reaches 100%, the battery will still be charging until we woke up in the morning.

By having such a restriction, the MacBook battery lifespan can be increased. Apple has added the option to disable this option too. By default, the “Battery Health Management” feature is enabled. If you not comfortable with this feature, you can turn it off easily from the System Preference menu.

Overall, if you are having a MacBook then you should install this software update once Apple rolls out to the public later this year. Just a few days ago, Apple unveils the iPhone SE 2020. We will update you guys once Apple rolls out this software update later this year.

COVID-19: Apple and Google release the mobility report

Reading Time: 4 minutes read

It has been almost one month since we have been in the COVID-19 lockdown. We are not sure about other countries, but in Malaysia during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, many people refuse to stay at home. This has caused the police to take severe action by remanding people who refuse to stay at home.

After Apple and Google announce their collaborative action to find a solution for the COVID-19, yesterday these two tech giants have released its mobility report. The mobility report is a collective of data which Apple and Google have collected respectively from the Apple Maps and Google Maps. Using this data, Apple helps that it can provide insight to the health authorities to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. According to Apple and Google, the data which has been collected is based on the request made for directions.

Apple Maps: Mobility Trends Reports

Apple has released the mobility trend reports for major cities and 63 countries or regions. This includes Malaysia too. At first we tried to search Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia was available. However, when we tried to search other cities in Malaysia there aren’t any result.

Based on the report for Malaysia, there is a tremendous drop in navigation routing request starting mid of March onwards. That is when the government have initiated a lockdown. It is good to see that Malaysians are listening to government orders during this tough period. The two lines represent request based on driving and walking.

However, nearing to the end of March 2020, we can see a gradual increase of routing request in the Apple Maps. Well, if you still remember, this is when the government have allowed a few sectors to operate during the MCO period. This has caused a slight increase in both walking and driving. At least 50% of the people have requested for navigation using the Apple Maps during the end of March up until 13th of April 2020. Whereas, there are at least 61% have requested walking navigation at the same time.

Mobility Trend in Kuala Lumpur

When we drill in further to view the report for Kuala Lumpur, we can see there is a steeper drop in both driving and walking request in Kuala Lumpur. As you can see from the report above for Kuala Lumpur, there is at least 80% reduced for walking request. Whereas for the driving request it has dropped to 66%. As we mentioned earlier, again there is a slight increase of request in Kuala Lumpur due to several groups of people have to continue working during the MCO period.

Google Maps: Community Mobility Reports

Apart from Apple, Google has also shared its mobility reports for different countries. It has released the report for 131 countries only. Google didn’t include the mobility report for cities as in the Apple mobility report. In the Google community mobility report, Google has categorized the movement as in the different area of places. For example, retail, grocery, parks, transit stations, offices and residential.

Looking at the report for Malaysia, there is a drop of 81% of navigation request to retails and recreations places. This includes places like restaurants, cafes, shopping centres, theme parks, museums, libraries, and movie theatres. Currently, at least 90% of the shopping centres and theatres have been closed in Malaysia since the government initiated a lockdown.

For the grocery and pharmacy categories, there is dropped of 58%. There are people still had to go to pharmacy especially to buy more mask or medicine. Moreover, people also have to go out to the groceries to buy groceries for their home. Moreover, if you take a look during 15th March 2020, people who go to groceries were highest. Obviously this was due to buy as much as they can before the government initiates lockdown in Malaysia.

Mobility trend shows people do work from home

From the report above also we can confirm that many companies have requested their employees to work from home. The is because the people have stopped going to workplaces and start to work from home. There is a drop of 51% of workplaces, whereas there is an increase of 31% of movement to residentials.

Overall, Apple and Google hope that by providing this data it can help the government and authorities to mitigate the COVID-19 cases worldwide. Do note that, both Apple and Google only collected the data by having the users privacy as the highest priority. None of the user’s information has been collected by the tech giants. If you want to view the mobility report for other countries you can check it from the Apple mobility report page and Google mobility report page.

Just one day before OnePlus unveils this flagship smartphone, our famous tech youtuber, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) has shared a glimpse of the OnePlus 8 Pro. Now, we are going to share you what makes this smartphone a flagship beast.

A smartphone with a magnificent display

First of all, the OnePlus 8 Pro features a 6.78″ QHD+ magnificent display with a screen resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels. With the OnePlus 8 Pro Fluid Engine, it ensures the onscreen content flow seamlessly. The best part of the OnePlus 8 Pro is now it has a 120Hz of screen refresh rate. This means you are going to enjoy super-smooth scrolling and swiping contents with the OnePlus 8 Pro.

It also has the in-display fingerprint scanner which allows you to unlock the OnePlus 8 Pro within a second. Not to forget finally, OnePlus has managed to design the OnePlus 8 Pro with the IP68 rating. This can protect the OnePlus 8 Pro from sudden water splashes at least. This is the first smartphone from OnePlus to have the IP68 rating.

A great 48MP camera smartphone

Next, let see what does the OnePlus 8 Pro packs for the cameras. OnePlus is living up to its name by having a quad-camera setup for the OnePlus 8 Pro. It has the 48MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera, an 8MP hybrid zoom camera with 30x optical zoom and a 5MP colour filter camera. This is the first time, OnePlus has pack four cameras in its smartphone. With the colour filter camera, when you shoot your videos you are going to see such vibrant colours.

Additionally, OnePlus has also developed a few camera software features such as the Smart Pet Capture. If you own a pet then probably, you are most likely will be using this feature to capture great photos of your pets. Using the software algorithm, the AI can detect whether you are capturing photos of your pet and it will auto adjust the camera settings for you.

In the previous, OnePlus 7 Pro, there is a pop-up selfie camera which pops up only when you switch to the selfie camera. However, in the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus is finally ditching the pop-up selfie camera and replace it with the punch-hole camera similar to the Samsung Galaxy S20 series smartphones. With the 16MP front selfie camera, you are going to enjoy capturing tons of selfies with software added features.

A smartphone can switch between 5G and non-5G networks

Keeping this beast powered is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G processor. This is the latest powerful mobile processor from the Qualcomm. It supports 5G where it can switch seamlessly between 5G and non-5G networks. The OnePlus 8 Pro also now supports the latest WiFi 6 technology. With this technology, you can transfer your files within the network at a lightning speed.

Besides the powerful processor, keeping the lights on daily is the 4510mAh battery which comes with the Warp Charge 30T power brick. With the latest Warp Charge 30T adapter, the OnePlus can charge from 0% to 50% within 23-minutes. Apart from that, it also supports the Warp Charge 30W wireless charging. Do note this is not the Qi wireless charging technology.

This is the proprietary wireless charging technology which only supports the wireless charging adapter from OnePlus. OnePlus promises that you can charge the OnePlus 8 Pro for 30-minutes to get 50% of battery from 1%. With the built-in charging coil inside the OnePlus 8 Pro, if you placed the OnePlus 8 Pro with supported Qi wireless charging adapter, it will only supports 5W. This means if you are buying the OnePlus 8 Pro, then you should also buy the Warp Charge 30 wireless charging adapter together.

Pricing and Availability

The OnePlus 8 Pro arrives in three different colours which are Onyx Black, Glacial Green and Ultramarine Blue. Obviously, our pick is the Ultramarine Blue which has the matte feel and it can avoid having ugly fingerprints on the back. The OnePlus 8 Pro also supports the latest Android 10 operating system. But this is layered on top of the OnePlus own OxygenOS.

For the pricing wise, this killer beast comes in two models. The based model which has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage is priced at $899 (RM3,894). Whereas, the highest model which comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage is priced at $999 (RM4,327). Well, if you are at TechmonQuay then you surely will get updated once OnePlus mention the release date for the Malaysian market.

Here’s how you can withdraw RM500 from your EPF account

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Back in March 2020, our 8th Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin announces that all employees can withdraw RM500 from their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account. This was due to the global pandemic of COVID-19 which strikes Malaysia continuously. Now, the government had announced a simpler way to withdraw RM500 from EPF account.

Using the iLestari website, employees can start to apply easily. Previously, you are required to go to fill up forms manually before applying to withdraw the RM500 from your EPF account. With the new iLestari website, you login into your i-Akaun easily. Here’s how you can immediately apply for the RM500 withdrawal amount from your EPF account.

First of all, you need to go to the iLestari website here. Then from the following four options, you need to select the first option “Permohonan Baru”. In the following section, you need to fill in your personal details such as your full name, IC number, mobile number, address, email address and postcode.

Next, you have to select the withdrawal amount. You can choose your desired amount starting from RM50 onwards up to RM500. After that, you are required to select your preferred bank name and enter your account details. Then you can check on the checkbox below to confirm your withdrawal details.

According to KWSP, after applying for the fund withdrawal you need to wait for at least 2 days before checking your submission status. If you did not receive SMS from the KWSP, then you can easily check the status from iLestari portal itself. All you have to do is click on the second option “Semakan Permohonan”. Then you need to provide your identification number and mobile number to check your submission status.

In a nutshell, this is the simple way for you to withdraw RM500 from your EPF account. Do note that, the fund will be credited from your Account 2 only. If the amount in your Account 2 is insufficient, then you will not be able to withdraw the fund.

As you all know, the whole world are suffering due to the global pandemic of COVID-19. Every countries has initiated lockdown in order to contain the virus spread. Doctors are advising many the whole nationwide to “stay at home and maintain social distancing”. If you take look at the social network platform there are various videos which are showing how to wash your hands. But there isn’t a right way on how to disinfect your smartphone.

Did you know that your smartphone has more germs compared to a toilet bowl? Our smartphone is the only device that all of us are continuously touching it. Even though you wash your hands when you return home, but how about your smartphone. So, today we are going to share you the right ways to disinfect your smartphone. Special thanks to Vivo Malaysia for sharing with us the steps to disinfect smartphone.

How to disinfect your smartphone during COVID-19?

First of all, there are many ways to disinfect your smartphone. If you read our previous post, Samsung has offered its help to clean your smartphone. All you need to do is bring your Samsung smartphone to your nearest service centre to get it clean. But, looking at the current situation now, that’s not possible because most of the shops in the mall has been closed for almost a month.

The second option is buying the smartphone disinfector itself. We know this might sounds crazy, but this is one of the option you can try, only if you are willing to spend hundreds to get a permanent cleaning device. You can checkout the video below, if you want to know more about the PhoneSoap smartphone disinfector device.

Well, if you are into the traditional way of cleaning your smartphone you have to continue reading this post.

The most simplest way to disinfect your smartphone is by wiping your smartphone with a microfiber cloth. We know you might have different type of cloth in your house. But you only have to use microfiber cloth to clean your smartphone. In case you might not know how does a microfiber cloth. Do you remember when you purchase a screen protector or tempered glass for your smartphone, they used to give you a small black or white cloth? Well, that the microfiber cloth.

So, once you have the microfiber cloth, you have to gently wipe the exterior of your smartphone in order to get rid of the smudges and crud. This is one of the most effective ways to disinfect your smartphone because it can remove the germs and bacteria from the surface of your smartphone.

You could also be someone who don’t trust the microfiber cloth because its just a normal cloth isn’t it. If that’s the case, then we suggest you to use wipes to disinfect your smartphone. All you have to do is get the wipes or wet tissue in understandable terms and then wipe the whole surface thoroughly. But make sure you don’t wipe the port section. Because it’s wet and it can spoil your smartphone ports. If the wipes are too wet, then you have to wring it out before wiping your smartphone with it.

The final way to disinfect your smartphone is to use a very clean paper towel to wipe your smartphone. So if you have used the wipes to clean your smartphone, next we suggest you to use the clean paper towel to wipe your smartphone again to avoid spoiling your smartphone.

In conclusion, these are simple ways to disinfect your smartphone. We hope these steps will help you to keep you away from virus infection. Do also note that, you need to disinfect your smartphone frequently especially during the COVID-19 period. And also don’t forget to wash your hands cleanly frequently too. We hope we can go through this COVID -19 together. For more tech updates follow our Facebook page.

But, after trying it they found out that, the Pixel 4 can be unlocked even your eyes are closed.

This is a serious flaw the Pixel 4 have. Imagine when you are sleeping, your partner can unlock your phone without waking you up. The interim solution which Google recommends was to disable the face unlock feature from the settings and use the usual pin or pattern unlock or fingerprint unlock.

Do note that, the Pixel 4 is not available in Malaysia. It’s only available in Singapore which is the nearest country to Malaysia.

Yesterday, Fitbit unveils its latest fitness tracker called the Fitbit Charge 4. Apart from the other smartwatches out there, the Fitbit Charge 4 is one of the advance fitness tracker device. Although it retains the usual Fitbit design, inside there are many interesting features.

First of all, Charge 4 comes with a built-in GPS feature. According to Fitbit, this is its first fitness tracker to launch with a built-in GPS feature. With this built-in GPS feature, you don’t have to bring your phone along with you for your workout. You can easily focus on your workout activities such as running, walking and other outdoor activities. The Fitbit Charge 4 now can also track your pace and distance in real-time. After completing your GPS-enabled workout you can sync your device with the Fitbit app where it shows a GPS heat map.

Active Zone Minutes helps you workout more efficiently and unlock better health

Moreover, Fitbit also developed a new feature called Active Zone Minutes. Using this feature, you can have a better understanding on how your daily activity contributes to your overall health. If you notice, most of the smartwatches decide your overall health condition by calculating the number of steps you have walked in a day. But in the Fitbit Charge 4, it takes beyond the number of steps you walked.

With the Fitbit’s PurePulse 24/7 heart rate tracking, Active Zone Minutes uses your personalized heart rate zones to track your effort for any energizing activity, whether doing a HIIT workout, power yoga or taking a vigorous walk outside. You can earn credit for each minute of moderate activity in fat burn zone and double the credit for vigorous activity in cardio and peak zones. All of this you will get real-time alerts on your wrist each time you change zones so you can push harder or scale back to make your workouts more efficient. After completing your workout, you can view a detailed summary of your heart rate zones in the Fitbit app, including progress toward your goals, so you can continue challenging yourself to make every minute count.

Sleep better and achieve your goals with Charge 4

The Fitbit Charge 4 also gives you 7-days of battery life. This means in a single charge you can continue using your Fitbit Charge 4 when you sleep too. Charge 4 now can easily measure your sleeping habit via the ‘Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph’ which you can find it in the Fitbit app. Since you can wear Charge 4 when you are sleeping, it will calculate the oxygen level in your bloodstream based on how many times you breathe.

Interestingly, Fitbit also has integrated the most awaited Spotify feature into the Fitbit Charge 4. Now you have full control of your Spotify music controls directly from the Fitbit Charge 4. However, we don’t think you can play Spotify music directly on the fitness tracker device.

Pricing and Availability

For the pricing wise, the Fitbit Charge 4 is priced at RM698.00. The Fitbit Charge 4 will be available in Malaysia starting from April onwards. You can walk-in to stores such as IT Hypermart, City Chain, Flash Gadget, Harvey Norman, Timekeeper & Thundermatch starting late-April. We are assuming this delay could be due to the current Movement Control Order (MCO) period in Malaysia.

The Fitbit Charge 4 comes in multiple colours which are black, rosewood and storm blue/black. Besides that, Fitbit also will be launching a special edition of the Fitbit Charge 4 which is priced at RM798.00.
