The PiP feature in the iOS YouTube app is finally here!

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Throughout the years, we have witnessed the release of countless iOS updates and features. Trust me, they are all cool but there is one feature that we didn’t know we need until it was there. The Picture in Picture (PiP) for the YouTube app.

It sounds mundane for some people but for others, it is such an anticipated update, especially for multitaskers. We would love to watch some videos while browsing for information, all at the same time right? Moreover, PiP in iOS is not new as you might have an access to the mode if you are browsing the YouTube videos on Safari but it does seem a little bit troublesome

Back in June, the PiP was already been made available to Premium users of iPhone and iPad in the US. Recently, YouTube unveiled that PiP is now rolling out (slowly but surely) to iPhone and iPad devices (running iOS and iPadOS 15.0 or higher). The PiP feature allows you to play the video in a moveable mini-player while browsing through other apps.

But, as usual, a good thing always comes with a price.

The PiP is available to be used for free using the YouTube app on iPhone or iPad but only if you live in the US. As a non-premium subscriber, PiP mode only works for non-music content. On the other hand, PiP will be available globally for Premium subscribers and you will also get the mode for music content.

If your device is eligible for this feature, you can try it out by testing it out! Try playing the videos while browsing other apps. To check the PiP status on your device, go to Settings > General and then check for a toggle with the label “Picture-in-picture”.

Have fun playing around with the feature! Now you can multitask better.

Apple’s new Lockdown Mode: What is it for?

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Being paranoid over someone hacking onto your devices is understandable and owning Apple’s devices probably soothes that worry a little bit since Apple has always guaranteed their devices to be the most secured. Introducing the new security tool known as Lockdown Mode shows Apple’s continuous effort and commitment to protecting its users’ privacy. The new feature is designed to battle against attempted hacking activities such as the Pegasus malware. This malicious malware is a growing threat to digital security.

Most notably, Lockdown Mode will offer maximum protection to Apple’s devices including blocking suspicious attachments and link previews in text messages that contain a hackable web browser. It is also able to block FaceTime calls from someone you don’t know. Another great thing about Lockdown Mode is that it will prevent the devices from accepting accessory connections while the phone is locked. This anticipated feature is already being used by the developers for software tests and will be made available publicly around September or October this year as part of the iOS 16 upgrade. As long as your device is running iOS 16, then you will get to utilize this tool.

How To Activate the Lockdown Mode

There are several simple steps that you need to follow to activate this feature. Firstly, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode. Read through the description. Next, tap on Turn on Lockdown Mode, and then hit Turn On & Restart.

Your iPhone will activate the Lockdown Mode after its restart. To confirm whether the Lockdown is enabled, you can check on Safari and you should be able to see a ‘Lockdown Enabled’ or ‘Lockdown Ready’ written at the top of the page. If it”s there, then you are all set! Now, just let it fight your battle for you.

If suddenly you decided to turn the mode off, all you need to do is go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode, tap Turn Off Lockdown Mode, and then hit Turn Off & Restart. Lockdown Mode will be disabled.

With this advanced feature, we hope that we are able to use our devices safely. Although the security of apple’s devices is a sure thing, however, it’s better to be safe than sorry right?

DeepMarkit receives Security Assessment Certificate from Quantstamp

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

DeepMarkit Corp, a technology company of which Radiance Assets Berhad, a Shariah-compliant investment company had acquired a significant stake earlier this year announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary known as First Carbon Corp. (FCC) has successfully received a Security Assessment Certificate from Quantstamp. Quantstamp, a leading blockchain security provider evaluated and approved security-related issues, code quality, and adherence to specifications and best practices in regard to the MintCarbon.io platform’s smart contracts.

The company abides by Quantstamp’s iterative audit process to meticulously review and test the MintCarbon.io platform’s blockchain-based smart contracts. Quantstamp performed the security assessment of the platform’s codebase and FCC incorporated feedback and recommendations from Quantstamp to complete the audit and receive the Certificate. All audited smart contracts are now ready to be deployed on the MintCarbon.io platform.

“We are excited to announce the Company’s receipt of the important Security Assessment Certificate from Quantstamp. The Certificate validates our robust focus on enhancing the MintCarbon.io platform’s codebase security. Performing institutional-level diligence further highlights our competitive strategy, which is to ensure that our products and ideas are well designed, offer a high level of utility to stakeholders, and are well protected. We continue to enhance the MintCarbon.io platform for users worldwide and build supply-side relationships globally as well,” said Ranjeet Sundher, Chief Executive Officer of DeepMarkit.

Quantstamp CEO Richard Ma says that “The carbon credit market is an excellent example of how Web3 can improve liquidity in traditional markets,”. “We are proud to provide the security foundation necessary for pragmatic use cases to thrive in the real world,” added Mr. Ma.

Quantstamp is a leader in blockchain security, with the mission to secure the decentralized internet. To date, it has protected over RM13.332 billion ($200 billion) in digital asset risk from hackers. Start-ups, foundations, and other enterprises work with Quantstamp to protect their creative ideas and products. Quantstamp’s services include securing Layer 1 blockchains, securing smart contract-powered NFT and De-Fi applications as well as developing financial primitives for Layer 1 blockchain ecosystems.

With Web3 security more critical than ever, developers are encouraged to test and evaluate codes by engaging with an established third-party security auditor. Accordingly, DeepMarkit’s engagement with Quantstamp through FCC is aligned with its goal of ensuring the security of the MintCarbon.io platform for users and stakeholders.

As part of the Shariah-compliant asset management firm’s mission to spearhead clean technology (“cleantech”) solutions through the introduction of carbon offset markets in Malaysia, the collaboration will see the two companies utilize First Carbon Corp’s web-based, turnkey platform MintCarbon.io. The digital tool will facilitate the minting of carbon credits into highly customizable non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that are tradable on the blockchain.

Charging your EV is easier with the charge-bot Ziggy

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Finding EV charger pots can be difficult!

Having an electric car probably makes you a proud owner of one of the greatest technology in the world, but that kind of hi-tech vehicle also comes with all sorts of complications. For example, finding a charging station to recharge your vehicle power, especially when you find yourself in unknown territory.

It is a common problem faced by electric car owners. Finding a regular parking spot is already troublesome, let alone one that has the EV chargers! In a few states across the United States, there are still a fewer number of public charger ports available.

But don’t let this news ruin the mood of those who wish to buy an electric car or those who already owned it because good news lies ahead!

Say hello to Ziggy, a charge-bot that makes charging electric cars easier

Recently, Ev Safe Charge, the Californian company introduced a mobile charging robot called Ziggy to make the EV charger more accessible to electric cars. So how does it work? Well, the execution is simple than you think! All you need to do is summon or book Ziggy via a mobile app or in-vehicle infotainment system. Next, Ziggy will reserve a parking space. When you have arrived at the location, it will pull out of the parking space and start charging your car.

Once it’s done, the robot will return to a staging area to recharge the energy that is obtained from the power grid or batteries. The good thing is that Ziggy doesn’t require special EV charging space so it’s pretty flexible where you want to charge your car.

Source image: EV Safe Charge

On top of that, the startup said that the innovative design of Ziggy allows advertising opportunities to be displayed on a large video monitor equipped on each side. While waiting for the car to be charged up, you can view the nearby shops that you may wander to. The positive side of this is that it generates an additional source of revenue for businesses.

The company stated that Ziggy will start to be manufactured in 2023 and already set its sights on a few locations including Holiday Inn Express in Redwood City, California, Opera Plaza in San Francisco and The William Vale, a hotel in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood.

The development of such technology is probably more important than ever to meet the increasing demand for EV charging stations in the future. With limited spaces to build more charging ports, Ziggy might be an effective solution for convenient EV charging. But, there is also a possibility that this would go sideways. You know, when there are too many robots scattered around, it would accidentally crash with another vehicle or added to the traffic congestion. Who knows? I guess we just have to wait and see.

Let us know what you think about it!

LG’s Rollable phone video leak! So is it real?

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

What happens to LG”s Rollable phone?

The idea of a rollable phone seems a bit mythical and well, quite impossible, right? But last year, LG confirmed that it is indeed, a real device and was said to be made available. In case you have a hard time imagining how the design would be, the LG’s rollable phone is like a roll film where you can adjust or extend the size of the phone from a small, regular phone to a tablet display. It is like a smartphone and tablet all rolled into one. Well, that sounds pretty cool though.

Unfortunately, the hype around the release of the rollable phone had died down and this innovative device seems like it never make it to the market.  However, there are rumors circulating around the phone involving a video that prove the phone had actually been built. Now, we know how it actually looks and operates!

Source: Checkout Tech YouTube

Is it real?

I leave it to you guys to decide whether the video was legit or otherwise. But, there are so many elements in that video that make it as real as it can get. For example, we can see the reflection of the lights and the person on the phone which is hard to be mistaken as fake. (well, unless they have a very advanced AI, we never know!)

We can’t make up much about the phone just from a few glimpses from the video but the rollable screen is surely intriguing enough that make us want to get our hands on it. As you can see, the rolled-out screen feature operates automatically just by a press of a button and once the screen turned to a bigger display, it shows the rest of the hidden apps on the screen.

The screen is rumored to have a 7.4-inch of display and can be rolled down to 6.8-inch. with Qualcomm SDM765 Snapdragon 765G (7 nm) performance.

Although there is no definite answer as to when this phone will be released or if its development will be continued to be pursued by LG, we can only hope that in the future, there may be other mobile companies that will explore this kind of advanced technology of the smartphone.
