Microsoft today unveiled two new security products, Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence and Microsoft Defender External Attack Surface Management which are designed to provide organisations with a wider insight into security threat operation, as well as to assist them in locking down their infrastructure and reducing their general attack surface.

About Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence

Source: Microsoft

Microsoft is utilising RiskIQ’s technology in Defender Threat Intelligence to map the internet every day, providing the security teams with the information they need to better understand rivals and their attack techniques.

The service also offers users a library of raw threat intelligence and analysis from Microsoft’s security experts, which should assist security teams in locating, removing, and blocking adversary tools that may be hidden within their organisation. Furthermore, this intelligence also improves the detection capabilities of Microsoft Sentinel and the whole Microsoft Defender products.

What is Microsoft Defender External Attack Surface Management?

The role of Microsoft Defender External Attack Surface Management is to scan the internet and its connections every day and create a complete catalogue of an organization’s background by discovering internet-facing resources, including agentless and unmanaged assets. This service assists these security teams in comprehending how a potential attacker perceives their network

Moreover, this comprehensive view of the organisation enables businesses to take recommended risk-mitigation steps and secure these unknown resources, endpoints, and assets within their security information and event management (SIEM) and extended detection and response tools.

To better understand the nature of multiple cyber threats, Microsoft is constantly gathering signal and threat intelligence across the digital estate to track threat actors far more closely. SMS That Offers RM100 Compensation For TNB Blackout Is Fake

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Just as the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that parties who are affected by the power outage last week would get a rebate, now scammers have found their way to manipulate this information for their own advantage.

Following the announcement, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) issued a warning about a new scam that claims to offer compensation to affected blackout users via Touch ‘n Go eWallet. The company warned users not to click on the link in the SMS, which uses the shortcode (15454).

Source: TNB Careline Facebook

Based on the post on the TNB Careline Facebook page, the message stated that Malaysians who are affected by the power outage will be entitled to RM100 compensation via the Touch ‘n Go eWallet. In order to “claim” the money, users must click on a link that leads to a fake website.

This is not the first time scammers have used Touch ‘n Go eWallet as the platform to convince users that the ‘payment’ offered is legit. Recently, it is reported that there is a phishing scam that also involves Touch ‘n Go eWallet and MySejahtera, stating that users are eligible to claim up to RM800 for COVID-19 financial aid.

It is easier for us to fall into these tricks as scammers often use sender ID that looks almost legit such as ‘15454’ or ‘GOV’ in the SMS we received. Therefore, we must always be careful not to click on suspicious links or downloading apps that are not authorized.

HONOR 70: World’s First Smartphone To Feature Sony’s IMX800 Sensor

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Following the teaser released by HONOR on its new product, the company confirmed that the latest smartphone HONOR 70 would be coming to Malaysia soon. In conjunction with its next mega launch, HONOR started to unveil more of the main features of the device which is its camera setup.

Source: HONOR

The HONOR 70 will soon make its debut as the world’s first smartphone to feature the IMX800 sensor. A 1/1.49 sensor and a large aperture of f/1.9 are a sign of things to come, bringing ultra-photography to new heights. The latest flagship model will include Sony’s IMX800 Super Sensing Main Camera, which has 50MP that doubles the ultrawide and macro cameras, as well as a 2MP depth sensor. It will bring mobile photography to a whole new level.

In comparison to the IMX766 used by mainstream flagships, the IMX800 incorporated in the HONOR 70 increased the dynamic range by 23%, outperforming its predecessor in terms of clarity, quality, and low-light performance. You can now rely on HONOR 70 to enhance photography performance with its low light, backlit, and night shooting scene features.

Low Light and Backlit photography

Due to the reputable sensor, low light shooting will provide a clearer shot with less noise, giving smartphone snapshots an overall achievement. You can clearly see in this photo sample that, even in a backlit scene, the HONOR 70 handles low light settings impressively. It is able to capture the background details without overexposing while retaining greater details of the overall atmosphere.

Ultrawide Camera

The other main camera is equipped with a 50MP and a 122-degree ultrawide lens, as well as the ability to shoot 2.5cm macro at the same time. This makes the HONOR 70 a rare catch in this price range with such a camera advantage.

The angled shots with the HONOR 70 showed little to no distortion under the 50-high megapixel shooting, with just the right amount of color and brightness control. Macro-wise, the HONOR 70 intelligently switches when it gets too close to a subject, allowing for clear, crisp shots at close range.

All these highlighted features of HONOR 70 should get you all excited about what’s more to be unpacked. So stay tuned to HONOR Malaysia’s official Facebook page and website for everything related to the soon-to-arrive HONOR 70.

Keep Getting Spam Messages On Your iMessage? Here’s How To Stop Them

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

As an Apple user, you might think your iMessage might not be filled with spam messages coming from suspicious senders given the top-notch security that Apple had always promoted in its devices. However, I’m sure that you also received a bunch of messages from a so-called recruiter from TikTok or other big companies saying that they are looking for people to fill in a position with a promising commission.

Since Apple doesn’t provide a way to stop these messages from coming in, there might be a little trick that you can do though which is to disable the iMessage option on your Apple devices. It would still let you send and receive regular SMS but not iMessage from other Apple users.

Source: Soya Cincau

To disable the iMessage feature, you only have to follow a few simple steps. You can go to Settings > Messages > Toggle iMessage off. That’s it! This method is recommended for someone who does not use iMessage as their main medium of texting since you will unable to use any of the iMessage features anymore.

Other than iPhone, you can also disable the iMessage feature on other Apple devices if you want to block out these spam SMS entirely. Because if you don’t do that, you won’t be able to receive SMS messages from other Apple users, but you will be able to receive texts via iMessage on the device that still has iMessage enabled.

Source: Soya Cincau

For iPad, you can go to Settings > Messages > Toggle iMessage off. For Mac, you can Open the Messages app > Click on Messages > Preferences > Under iMessage, remove the blue tick next to your Apple ID email

You can try out this method if you don’t want any ‘recruiters’ messaging you anymore.

Users Beware Of Fake MySejahtera SMS Offering Covid-19 Financial Aid

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) warned the public to be wary of a phishing scam that involves the MySejahtera app and the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.

Source: Cyber Crime Alert Royal Malaysia Police Facebook

Following a post on its Cyber Crime Alert Page, PDRM stated that the scam tactic involved an SMS saying that MySejahtera has credited Covid-19 financial aid to users’ Touch ‘n Go e-wallet. Then, they will be sent to a fake Touch ‘n Go website by clicking on a link.

Furthermore, customers will be asked to enter their phone number and account PIN number on the fake website, which could disclose their personal information to criminals. The general public has been advised not to click on links offered by unknown numbers and to confirm any messages with the relevant parties.

In a different tweet post, MySejahtera stated that it has not issued any SMSes to the public regarding financial assistance. The problem was discovered after a Twitter user claimed to have received an SMS from sender “GOV” stating that RM800 had been credited to the user’s e-wallet as part of a Covid-19 special financial aid plan. The SMS also offered a link to a fake Touch ‘n Go webpage.

MySejahtera has also reacted to the user, stating that the SMS is a fraud and that the problem is being reported to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The user was instructed to disregard the fake SMS.

Splitting Your Meal Bills Is Now Easier With The Tab App

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Going out for a meal with your friends might be one of the best moments of your life. Well, until it’s time to pay the bills. To make it easier for everyone, you probably pay the bills first or split them among your friends. But, counting on the expenses can be a bit chaotic especially when you are not on a good term with math or worse, you lost track of which item you and your friends have paid for!

Nowadays technology is deeply intertwined with our daily lives to the point that even a small thing like splitting bills has a specific app for it. It is called the Tab app and it only has one function, which is to divide meal bills among a group of people.

Here’s how it works.

After downloading the app, one person will volunteer to pay in cash or credit. Then they take a picture of the bill to receive an itemised version of it on the app. There is a code at the top of this itemised list that the person in charge of the bill distributes to the group.

Source: The Verge

Next, anyone who wants to join the bill can simply tap “Join Bill” on the main screen, regardless of whether they have an account, and then enter the code provided. Everyone can choose a nickname and they can go through the itemised bill, selecting what they ordered. If you ordered a meal that needs to be divided among several people, the Tab app allows numerous people to select the same item. When everyone has completed choosing their items, the app will calculate how much each individual owes after tax and tip.

Source: The Verge

After receiving their amount, each person is offered the option of paying in cash or via Venmo. If you choose Venmo and grant access to Tab, Tab will automatically pay the person in charge of the bill. All that remains is for the person in charge of the bill to pay and then collect their Venmo transfers.

According to The Verge, the Tab app is currently unable to support payment through Venmo. There is no explanation as to why it stopped working though. Alternatively, you can still use the Tab app to round up the amount but you need to manually switch to Venmo to pay the bills.

The next time you hang out with your friends, you can try out the Tab app so that you no longer have to spend so much time trying to remember who pays for what. The Tab app can be downloaded in the Google Play Store and App Store.

Those Who Are Affected By The Power Outage Will Get Rebates

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

The major power outage that occurred last Wednesday caused most houses to blackout and interrupted several services including mobile connectivity as well as rail services. The disruption, which affected numerous places in Peninsular Malaysia, was caused by an equipment failure at the Yong Peng north main input substation in Yong Peng, Johor, according to TNB.

Although the power outage, which happened at 12.39 pm on that day had been resolved within two hours and 21 minutes, it had affected around one million home, industrial, and commercial account users, according to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Following the news, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) would provide rebates to consumers, particularly businesses, who were affected by the power outage. Takiyuddin stated that “The affected account users, such as traders, can submit a claim by stating the amount of losses suffered.”

However, he added that he would table the issue regarding the rebate and bring it up in parliament on August 4.

TikTok Music May Be The Next Big Rival To Spotify and Apple Music

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

TikTok might be a trendsetter in incorporating music in videos. Sometimes, scrolling through comment sections in the creators’ videos, you can see many people started to discover a bunch of new songs (sometimes old songs too) through the app.

The increasing popularity of TikTok has opened up opportunities for songs to be recognized and streamed widely in a short time span. Therefore, launching its own music platform wouldn’t be much of a surprise or users might already expect the move.

It was reported that ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, had filed a trademark application for “TikTok Music” with the US Patent and Trademark Office in May. The trademark application proposes a service that would allow users to buy, listen, share, and download music. On top of that, they can also create, and recommend playlists, post comments on music, and stream audio and video.

Resso, a music streaming app launched by ByteDance apparently shares some similar features with TikTok Music such as the ability to create playlists, share songs on social media and interact with the app community. Moreover, according to The Information, the TikTok app in Brazil has a button that connects users to Resso so they can listen to the complete version of a song they prefer.

As for now, it is still unclear how ByteDance would want to proceed with TikTok Music or if this service would make it to the users at all. We have to wait for more info on this in the upcoming weeks or months. Despite the uncertainty of the TikTok music launch, it is no doubt that Spotify and Apple Music should still consider this news as a ‘threat’ since TikTok has already toppled other social media platforms so it is possible that it would dominate the music streaming domain as well.
