The Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin, announced a new feature that will be introduced on the MySejahtera application in which it will be able to directly accommodate the registration of organ donor pledges.ย
Khairy claims that pledges done on the MySejahtera app will be electronically stored in the Health Ministry’s system, providing proof to the donor’s next of kin that the donor had intended to donate their organs to save othersโ lives after their passing.
In addition, according to data from the Global Observatory On Donation and Transplantation, he said, Malaysia was one of the 10 countries with the lowest transplant rate in the world last year. Due to this, the government has spent a considerable amount on haemodialysis for individuals with severe kidney failure.
Therefore, the initiative, which is set to launch on the app on September 6, aims to simplify the sign-up process while also raising awareness about the act of organ donation.
Individuals over the age of 18 can sign up to become donors and will be issued a physical card that they should keep with them at all times. The card will also be displayed in the profile section of your MySejahtera app.
This feature is also viewed as a necessary step toward the ultimate goal of making MySejahtera a one-stop centre health hub that is user-friendly.ย
