Following the release of multiple new Apple devices from its annual event last week, Apple also announced the launch date for some of this year’s software updates which include iOS 16.
Apple’s Malaysian website says that the new iOS 16 will be available today, Tuesday, September 13. Here’s what users can expect to come with the latest updates.
To start, the most notable change in iOS 16 is the ability to customize the lock screen, which is a shift from previous versions of the operating system. Users will have the option of changing the font and colour of the clock text on the lock screen, as well as implementing a layered effect on their wallpaper of choice. Besides, iOS will suggest photos from your library that would look great on the Lock Screen.
Moreover, you can choose which apps and contacts you want to receive notifications from and which you want to dismiss when setting up a Focus. The Focus feature becomes even more effective when connected to the Lock Screen, allowing users to simply swipe to a designated Lock Screen to activate the corresponding Focus. There is also a feature called Live activities, a new kind of widget, that displays streams of real-time notifications without crowding the lock screen.
Interestingly, users can now remove an image’s subject from its background with a tap and hold, allowing them to use it in a variety of different apps, including Messages. Users can now quickly and easily get information about objects and scenes in photos using Visual Look Up, which has been expanded to recognise birds, insects, spiders, and statues.
Features like being able to unsend or edit a message are always high on users’ wish lists for future messaging updates. Therefore, with iOS 16, you now have up to 15 minutes after sending a message to edit it. But, recipients will be able to see a history of message edits. You can also recover recently deleted messages for up to 30 days after they have been deleted.
In terms of security, passkeys, a more secure and convenient login method, will replace passwords across most websites as a result of the update’s strong focus on security. This is because your private key is never stored on a web server, so you never have to worry about website leaks jeopardising your accounts.
