
After lots of rumours on the Redmi Note 8 series smartphone, finally, Xiaomi reveals the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. All the hypes for this phone are mainly for the 64MP quad-camera setup. Let’s see what Redmi has to offer us.
Redmi Note 8 Pro: A staggering 64-million pixels smartphone
First of all, Redmi Note 8 Pro is the high-end model for the Redmi Note series. Obviously, you can expect the specs to be higher than the Redmi Note 8.

The front is the large 6.53″ Full HD+ LCD display which has the resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. By looking at the front display design, the Note 8 Pro has a dew-drop display with the notch for the selfie camera. The display has 91.4% of the screen-to-body ratio which covers almost the whole body. Redmi Note 8 Pro uses a Gorilla Glass 5 which protects the phone from accidental fall and day-to-day wear and tear. With the 32MP front selfie camera, you can enjoy taking beautiful selfies with your friends and family.
The rear side comes with the long-awaited 64MP quad-camera setup. This includes an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor and 2MP f/2.4 macro lens. This is almost similar to its contender, Realme XT which recently launched by Realme which equips with the similar 64MP quad-camera setup. This is the first time, Xiaomi uses Samsung’s new 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 camera sensor technology. As we said previously, with this image sensor, it can produce bright 16MP photos under the low-light situation.

Other than that, since the front is using an LCD display, Xiaomi decided to mount the fingerprint scanner at the rear of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Xiaomi is also using similar Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the rear of Redmi Note 8 Pro too. This will protect the phone from shattering easily.
Under the hood, is the new MediaTek’s Helio G90T processor. Redmi Note 8 Pro is the first smartphone to hook up with this chipset. Redmi Note 8 Pro is mainly focused on gaming performance. For that, Xiaomi has packed the device with a huge 4,500mAh battery which supports 18W fast-charging technology. It even has a liquid cooling system to not overheat the phone when you play games.
The Note 8 Pro comes in two variants. The base model is equipped with 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The highest variant will be equipped with 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. It even supports microSD storage for up to 256GB.
For the price wise, the base model will be priced at CNY1,399 (RM826) whereas the mid-model is priced at CNY1,599 (RM942). The highest variant will be priced at CNY1,799 (RM1,057). At this moment the pre-order will begin on September 10 onwards and the Note 8 Pro is slated to go for sale in China starting from September 17 onwards.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro will be priced at CNY1,399 (~RM826) for the 6GB RAM+64GB Storage memory configuration, CNY1,599 (~RM942) for the 6GB RAM+128GB storage variant, and CNY1,799 for the top-spec with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will be available for pre-order in China from the 10th of September onward and will hit shelves in mainland China from the 17th of September onward.
Redmi Note 8: Mid-range smartphone with extra power
Redmi Note 8 is the entry device for the Redmi Note 8 series smartphone. Comparing the specs, this device has lower specs compared to Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The front comes with a smaller 6.3″ Full HD+ LCD display which still retains the same screen resolution of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. However, the selfie camera sensor has been reduced to 13MP. The display wise still it has a dew-drop similar to the Note 8 Pro.
At the back, Redmi Note 8 comes with a quad-camera setup. Despite using a quad-camera, Redmi Note 8 has a 48MP f/1.8 main camera. The other remaining cameras are still the same as the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Moreover, the position of the camera has been moved to the left side same as the Huawei P30 smartphones.

Powering the Redmi Note 8 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset. With this processor, Redmi Note 8 comes in three variants. The base model is the 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. The highest variant has a 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. It also supports external storage for up to 256GB similar to the Note 8 Pro. Other than that, the battery size has been reduced to 4,000mAh. Despite that, it still supports the 18W fast-charging via USB-C.
As the specs drop the price also drops for the Redmi Note 8. The base model starts at CNY999 (RM588). The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced ar CNY1,199 (RM706). The highest variant is priced at CNY1,399 (RM826).
In a nutshell, we might need to wait for a longer time for the device to reach in Malaysia. At this moment, Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro will only be available in China.
