Finally, the most awaited USB 4.0 has been announced. As promised USB 4.0 is twice the speed of the current USB 3.0. However, the new USB 4.0 has ditched the space and the number. Now it is officially called USB4.

Back in March, the USB-IF announces its upcoming USB4 which will provide a speed of 40Gbps. It is 8 times faster than the original USB3. During that time, there wasn’t any technical document for the USB4. Today, the USB-IF has officially share USB4 technical specifications. With this document, sooner many tech companies will start to port USB4 into their hardware.

Other than that, the new USB4 is compatible with the current Intel’s Thunderbolt 3. Which means you can easily use in different types of devices. With its single cable, it can send power, data and video signal. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about the port shapes and size. Sooner you can use USB4 as a replacement for other ports such as HDMI, USB-C and USB-A.

In a nutshell, it will take at least another year for you to see new devices to support this new standard. Moving forward, USB4 will be used widely in all devices for data transfer. What do you think about the new naming for USB4? Let us know on the comment section below.
