Galaxy AI Coming to Samsung Galaxy A Series in 2024

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Samsung will bring the Galaxy AI down to its mid-range lineups, particularly with the Galaxy A series—no small feat for this South Korean tech giant. Traditionally, these AI features were placed in some more high-end models, such as the S24 series, conventionally. This kind of phone comes with advanced generative AI features like Call Assist, Photo Assist, and Circle To Search. But now, these feature extensions are intended to be made by the company.

The first to receive Galaxy AI are the Galaxy A35 and A55. This will be accompanied by One UI 6.1.1. Users can expect this software update in the months to come. Not all of the goodies contained in the Galaxy AI will find their way to these mid-range devices since some advanced tools are usually unique to only the high-end models. Details on which ones to be included are not specific yet.

That will also make its Galaxy A series much more functional. Some of the high-end AI tools, until now reserved for flagship models, will come down to mid-range users. Not all features will be available, but that is beside the point—this expansion is a welcome move. It is a thumbs-up for Samsung’s commitment to its entire line-up of products.

Galaxy AI

Including Galaxy AI in mid-range models signals strategic change for Samsung. At stake is a necessity to give advanced technology at different prices. This may make more users switch to the Galaxy A series. On the whole, the inclusion of Galaxy AI in the middle range of devices is a giant step taken by Samsung.

Photos App Changes in iOS 18 Beta: Improved Usability

0
Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple has made huge changes in the Photos app in the iOS 18 beta. It now incorporates user feedback, having changed and even removed many new features. The carousel view was one such feature. It used on-device intelligence for the task of highlighting top photos. Due to the criticism that was faced, Apple has now decided to completely remove this feature.

Photos app

Apart from the Carousel removal, Apple has refreshed other components of the Photos app. Now, the “All Photos” module will display more of the photo grid at once. Also, the “Recently Saved” photos are now embedded into the “Recent Days” album. All these changes are targeted at increasing the usability of the application.

The decision to ax Carousel comes after significant backlash from beta testers. Apple had initially touted Carousel as one of the major features of iOS 18. It was trouble, so it’s been axed.

It’s now easier for people who have multiple albums to get to their photos. Most changes ironed out the troubles raised by developers and testers. Apple hopes updates will make software more user-friendly.

Ultimately, it will be Apple’s final version of iOS 18 that dictates all these changes. In effect, the idea is to make the Photos app as seamless as possible. However, an assessment of user satisfaction will have to be made when it is available to the public this Fall.

Malaysia’s New Social Media Platform to Enhance Digital Safety

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

The Malaysian government is considering owning its social media platform. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed fears about United States-based tech giants. He felt that these platforms were not doing enough to ensure the safety of Malaysians. Fahmi spoke during the ‘Himpunan Pembebasan Palestine’ rally on 4 August.

Inadequate safety measures are in place, while platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X profit from Malaysians. Fahmi said that Facebook alone pulled in US$600 million from Malaysia last year but questioned their commitment to user safety in Malaysia. The government is to study and assess the feasibility of developing a local social media platform.

Though Fahmi admitted that the development of a new platform is not easy, he mentioned some countries are trying to do so. The Malaysian government is also studying this possibility. The Malaysian government recently stipulated that social media and messaging platforms need to obtain a license.

Beginning on 1 January 2025, any platform with more than eight million users will have to get registered to continue operating in Malaysia. Earlier, Fahmi assured the government that there was no intention to block or ban social media sites. However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made a warning.

social media platform

License applications would start on the 1st of August, and those platforms that do not apply might face a ban. Fahmi also shared an interesting contribution to the proposal. Local celebrity host Datuk Aznil Nawawi supported the idea of a Malaysian government social media platform. This happened after Meta’s move to remove posts related to Palestine by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar’s posts condemned the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh by Israel. Meta took down the posts and issued a reason: “Dangerous individuals and organizations”. The Malaysian government will meet Meta representatives this week to discuss the matter further.

Developing a Malaysian government’s social media platform aims to enhance online safety for its residents.

Boost Outdoor Signage Lifespan with LG’s New Anti-Discoloration

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

LG Electronics introduces its Anti-Discoloration feature in the latest technology used for outdoor digital signage. This solves the yellowing problem on screens due to sun exposure. According to verification by UL Solutions, this technology can realize both display quality and performance stability.

LG applied and received the very first UL verification for anti-discoloration technology. LG developed comprehensive test methods and defect evaluation criteria. Then, the product was evaluated against those criteria by UL Solutions as an independent testing house. Before, there were no known standards to measure the screen-yellowing resistance in displays.

Anti-Discoloration

Outdoor displays are finding huge applications in restaurants, sports stadiums, and so on. Continuous exposure to the sun may turn them yellow after some period. LG’s Anti-Discoloration™ technology prevents this problem, ensuring durable and high-quality display quality.

This technology was developed by LG for extra value for customers in the B2B sector. It showed that discoloration causes customers to suffer faster replacement rates and service interruptions. The outdoor displays of LG now incorporate advanced thermal solutions and durable panel materials.

Anti-Discoloration

UL Verified products with Anti-Discoloration technology are already applied to some of the new high-brightness outdoor signage products of LG, with plans for even more solutions soon. This innovation will further improve the reliability of products under harsh conditions.

According to LG’s senior vice president, Paik Ki-mun, the company has pledged to perform and produce quality. The company shall continue doing its ongoing research programs to try and solve any issue affecting the digital signage experience. This is a measure geared at enhancing customers’ satisfaction and building trust in them continuously.

Revolutionary M4 Chip Powers Apple’s 2025 Mac lineup

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple has lined up new Macs equipped with its M4 chip, which it plans to go on sale in 2025. This list includes a MacBook Air, a Mac Studio, and a Mac Pro. As per Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the M4 chip is going to be the follow-up to the M3-powered MacBook Pro and iMac.

This year, it will add M4 technology to these models. Other changes apart from that chipset are not anticipated. Future 24-inch iMacs equipped with an M4 chip may have additional USB-C accessories, however.

M4 chip

Interestingly, at least one of them might carry major design changes. Recent design revamps for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac could leave the Mac Pro and Mac Mini.

A new look is potential for the Mac Mini, which has not changed much in design since 2020. More importantly, it skipped the M3 series, so there’s a high chance of refreshment in design for the Mac Mini.

M4 chip

The Mac Pro, last refreshed in 2022, retains the same modular design as the 2019 model. Considering the updates the Mac Mini has had for its ports and the DVD drive’s removal, it would be well-suited to be the model for dramatic changes.

These innovations are in line with Apple’s policy of continuous innovation and improvement of its product lineup. The M4 chip is supposed to support enhanced speed and efficiency. Thus, these developments are likely to attract a large audience.

It also suggests that Apple will not lag behind in adapting new technology with the implementation of the M4 chip in their Mac lineup. It will keep the Mac lineup of Apple up to date and competitive in the market. But Apple is soon to release new M4-powered Macs, the most expected are the Mac Mini and Mac Pro.
