Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple’s iPhone 16 event is going to air on September 9th at 1 PM ET. Catch the latest and greatest at Apple live from the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. “It’s Glowtime” is the slogan, hinting at really exciting updates. The plot will revolve around hardware upgrades and software enhancements.

iPhone 16 Event

This year’s iPhone lineup may not feature dramatic hardware changes but focus on refining software and integration of AI-powered Apple Intelligence. Slightly larger screens and redesigned cameras are a possibility for the new iPhones. The basic models might drop the square for a vertical camera layout.

A new capture button might be added, improving the photography and video recording feature in particular. This button would include zoom gesture controls, making landscape mode easier. Adding this feature to all the models or just the Pro versions is not clearly explained.

iPhone 16 Event

Apple is expected to announce, in addition to the iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 10 with a larger screen and maybe a new chip for higher performance or efficiency. Reports also note changes to the band system, which could affect compatibility with bands already available.

iPhone 16 Event

Finally, it’s time to refresh the AirPods with some new entry-level and mid-tier versions. Here, feature enhancements are expected, with the possibility of options for wireless charging. Apple will probably release iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and other major updates shortly after the event. So let’s wait for the iPhone 16 Event until later in October.

24-Hour Expiration Timer on Threads Posts: Testing New Feature

0
Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Threads are testing the 24-hour expiration timer on posts like Instagram Stories. This means that soon, posts or replies would disappear a day after they were originally sent. A certain number of users already have the possibility of testing this new option. It’s similar to Twitter’s old Fleets feature, which did not attract much popularity. However, this feature might help users who often delete their posts.

Threads posts

The test comes several months after Threads looked into auto-archiving posts. The latter feature would let users hide posts after a set time. However, the feature did not gain wide interest from users. Threads have not rolled it out on a wide scale yet. The new 24-hour expiration timer, meanwhile seems to be an alternative.

Threads hit 200 million users by the start of early August, a growth rate so rapid that now the company has introduced an analytics tool, named Insights. Insights help to keep track of performance on a user’s account, most especially for those with large followings. This is part of the effort that Threads is making toward enhancing user experience.

Threads posts

Meta also says that soon, post-scheduling will be available on Threads, so users will have a better handle on the content they post. This is a combination of enabling both these features, proving Threads to have the best future approach to user feedback. Being more flexible and user-friendly is all Meta wants Threads to be.

The 24-hour expiration timer could cater to as many. That specifically targets those people who do not like permanent postings for which they will have to go back and delete those manual postings. This will unarguably be one of the vital feature enhancements on Threads.

X Staff Faces New Stock Grants Requirements Amid Tensions

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Elon Musk recently informed staff at X about new stock grants. At the same time, the big catch will be that they all have to submit a one-page summary of their contributions now to be able to receive the stock options. These changes are made to attach stock grants directly to individual impact.

X Stock Grants

The updated policy has increased ongoing tensions at the company. Recently, the promotions process was delayed with no convincing reasons given. Staff at X, formerly Twitter, are already on high alert following a series of ongoing struggles under Musk’s ownership.

In addition, there is staff owed their annual equity refresher, which was due in April. Musk promised employees regular cash-outs in a similar way to how the model at SpaceX works. So far, this has not happened, another source of frustration for staff.

X Stock Grants

The last refresh, in October 2023, priced the company at $19 billion—far from the $44 billion Musk had paid for the company a year before. Employees received RSUs at a share price of $45 during this refresh.

As employees await clarity and compensation, the new stock grant policy is probably going to increase these anxieties. It is on the leaders of this company to address these issues to maintain staff morale.

Here’s Why Meta Abandoned Its High-End MR Headsets Project

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

The latest MR headsets from Meta are axing a highly anticipated project. According to Engadget, the company has stopped working on this high-end gadget, internally codenamed La Jolla, after a product review meeting between chief design officer John Cormack and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This next-generation headset was supposed to be available in 2027 with capabilities beyond the Quest 3.

MR headsets

One of the major reasons cited behind the axing is related to its estimated price. Meta has been trying to keep this headset under $1,000—approximately RM4,343. However, its ambitious scope made it hard to reach this goal. Supposedly performing way better than the current Quest 3 would have made this very hard to manage in terms of pricing.

Although it is already officially canceled, Meta hasn’t given up on MR headsets yet. The company is expected to release a new model by 2026, the Meta Quest 4. With that model, advanced technology will supposedly be integrated, possibly including facial muscle movement tracking, which was hinted at in recent patents.

The decision reflects Meta’s continuous strategy of balancing innovation and cost. While the project in La Jolla is scrapped, the focus stays on delivering top quality at affordable prices in MR devices. An MR device Quest 4 will more than likely say a lot about where Meta is headed and if they can continue to push the envelope within practical pricing constraints.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: New Branding for AI Tools

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Microsoft is renaming its Copilot AI tools to “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” The name will place more of a spotlight on the paid AI service as part of the company’s wide-ranging Microsoft 365 umbrella. The new name will be applied to the paid variant as well, replacing “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

The rebranding reaches different applications individually. For example, “Copilot in Word” will be named “Copilot in Word.” Other services, like Sales and Finance, have taken names like “Copilot for Sales” and “Copilot for Finance.”.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is also rolling out a new chat module that will be named “Business Chat” in their suite. This move is pretty typical for Microsoft with their structural rebranding strategy. This renaming has, however, brought about a little internal confusion within the teams.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

However, no major concerns have been brought up within the organization. It appears as though the Microsoft 365 team truly wishes to adopt the Copilot branding systemically. This is an effort to place all AI-related items under the Microsoft 365 name.

The rebranding mostly affects Microsoft’s AI products. There do not appear to be immediate changes for consumer-facing Copilot tools managed by Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman. Much of this will bind AI tools to the Office suite.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

While this does make business-facing Copilots outdated as it binds AI tools with the Office suite, it remains to be seen if future Copilots will similarly be made obsolete outside of the suite. All in all, it is clear from this that Microsoft’s move toward consolidating artificial intelligence products under one brand.

The overall move is towards Microsoft 365 Copilot, meaning it’s just strategic for driving brand cohesion. This new, unified identity will probably see further updates and expansions of the Copilot brand in the future.

iQOO Z9s

Under the hood, the iQOO Z9s is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset. In comparison to the Pro version with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, it had way better performance compared to the vanilla version.
