Today, Meta has officially unveiled its new text-based social networking app called Threads. We have downloaded this app to give it a try and there are a few things we would like to share about this app. For now, this app has been the talk of the day as many people are saying that this could be the real threat to Twitter. Is Meta’s Threads app the real threat to Twitter?
At the moment of writing this piece of content, it seems that the Threads app is only available in 100 countries except for Europe countries. This is due to the local data privacy regulations. After installing the app, the app automatically allows us to log in using our Instagram login credentials. This includes the username, profile picture and bio as well. You can imagine this app as a text-based Instagram app. Even the colour schemes also are similar to Instagram.
Currently, Twitter has introduced a lot of limitations to users and most of them have started to stop using Twitter. So with the launch of this new Threads app, we can surely say that this app is going to be a real threat to Twitter. Similar to Twitter, you write text up to 500 characters. You can even attach links, photos or videos up to 5 minutes in length.

Threads app still needs to be fixed
Within 10 minutes of using this app, we found that the app is quite buggy. First of all, on iOS devices, we weren’t able to attach a photo or video on the app. The moment, we click on the photos, the app got crashed. At the moment, this was tested on an iOS17 Developer Beta 3. So maybe that could be the issue. We will try to replicate this issue on a stable iOS16 and see whether the app is still crashing or not.
Coming to the Android app, we notice that, after typing characters for a new thread, how the moment, we press the Enter key on the keyboard, the app crashes similarly to the iOS app as well. We tried to do the same thing multiple times, and we can see that it’s happening quite consistently. Let’s hope that the Meta team fixes this bug on the Thread app.
Overall, since morning we notice a lot of celebrities and influencers from Instagram have jumped into the bandwagon. To be honest, it’s really quite interesting to use this app. If you are a Twitter user then you surely know why this app is really interesting. Unlike Instagram, you need to share photos to share your thoughts. Using the Threads app, you can share whatever comes to your mind in text form. And following your Instagram users on Threads is pretty much simple. With just a single tap, anyone can follow the accounts they follow on Instagram.
In case you want to try the Threads app, you can get it from both Apple Store and Google Play Store for free.
