Leica Malaysia just announced a special digital rangefinder camera called the Leica M11-D. In contrast to most modern cameras, this one does not have any kind of rear LCD. It combines the power of digital with the simplicity of analog shooting. Its absence underlines the purism of photography-it focuses on the essentials.
However, the minimalist design is built up with a catch, the Leica M11-D. The camera’s black aluminum body has no front logo or red dot. Only a dark chrome viewfinder and two small red dials grace this color-on-color camera. It thus assumes simple aesthetics, characteristic of Leica cameras.
Even without the inclusion of the rear screen, the Leica M11-D does not waste its impressive specs. It features a 60MP CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution technology. Moreover, it houses 256 GB of internal memory, complete with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Connectivity and endurance are guaranteed via a large 1800 mAh battery and USB-C port.
First, of course, is the ISO dial on the back of the camera. Leica has taken away the display and used this as a manual control, underpinning the core settings of photography. The form is to provide a more hands-on experience with your camera.
Secondly, the Leica M11-D features content credentials based on CAI’s C2PA standards. Photographers can enjoy seamless integration with iOS devices. “Made for iPhone and iPad” certification of the camera ensures connectivity efficiently.
Accessories are also available with Leica offering a black leather half case and strap, colored in cognac and black. As mentioned, they were designed to fit nicely with the sleek design of the camera.
Even with the pretty minimalistic design, the Leica M11-D does come at a price point of RM50,250. It is now available in Leica Malaysia for enthusiasts who want- style and substance – in a rangefinder camera.
