Navigate with Ease: Waze Introduces Real-Time EV Charging Station Finder

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Have you ever been on a road trip with an electric vehicle and found yourself in a panic because you couldn’t find a charging station nearby? Well, Waze, the navigation app owned by Google, has some good news for you. It has introduced a new feature that will help you locate electric vehicle charging stations along your route. And the best part? You can do it all through your phone!

The feature is still being rolled out globally, so keep an eye out for it over the coming weeks. Once it’s available, you can input your electric vehicle and plug type into the app, and it will show you the nearest suitable charging stations along your route. It’s that simple!

What’s even better is that Waze has taken steps to ensure that the charging station information is accurate and up-to-date. Its local Map Editors in the Waze Community will be reviewing and updating the data in real time, so you won’t have to worry about outdated or unreliable information.

One of the main differences between Waze and Google Maps, its Google stablemate, is that Waze works through the phone app. While you can search for charging stations on Google Maps using your phone, you won’t be able to do it along your route (only petrol stations for now). You’ll need a car with Google Automotive Services (GAS) built in to access this feature.

Like Google Maps on GAS-equipped cars, Waze can show you charging stations based on their charging speeds, such as medium, fast, or very fast. You’ll also be able to see how many plugs are available at each charging station and the charging speed of each plug-in kilowatts.

Overall, this is a great step forward for electric vehicle drivers, and we can’t wait to see how it develops.
