The years have witnessed quite a few feature explorations on the part of the makers of smartphones, including those featuring a temperature sensor, which was to help users in the process of health monitoring. Very recently, Google joined that trend with its Pixel 8 Pro and continues with the Pixel 9 Pro. This handy feature is also housed by the Pixel 9 Pro, thereby making health monitoring so much easier.

The thermometer sensor in the Pixel 9 Pro is located on the camera bump, exactly below the flash. With the Thermometer app open, it can be pointed toward said object. Additionally, it could measure the current temperature of the surroundings indoors or outdoors.
Curiously, the Thermometer app applies visual aid through the phone’s camera system. While this will not provide thermal vision, it aids in pointing the sensor in the correct direction. The task of the camera is to guide your measurement and display temperatures accordingly.

Google claims its temperature sensor is remarkably accurate. Clinical trials showed that the sensor measures body temperature within 0.3 degrees Celsius of an FDA-approved thermometer. Google’s temperature app received FDA approval in December, hinting at the app being reliable for personal usage.
It also has some other uses aside from checking the body temperature. It can take the temperature of your surroundings, your drink, and so on. While it’s useful in its way, a doctor’s visit remains the best option when it comes to medical advice.
