Revolutionizing Student Mental Health: AI-Based Platform Empowers Educators

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Educators shape the minds of the next generation. They teach more than just the curriculum. Some students have special needs or mental health/behavioral issues. Educators must be able to identify these students and adjust their teaching styles. This ensures that every student gets the support they need to succeed.

The LearnX Education Certification Programme helps teachers develop skills to support students with special needs and mental health/behavioral issues. Teachers can access self-learning sessions via the LearnX website or app. The program is developed by LearnX, Lantern.AI, and RapL Asia. Schools can sign up for yellow, green, and black belt certifications for their teachers. Teachers only need to spend 15 minutes every other day engaging with the learning content. They will answer questions to measure their understanding and confidence.

The LearnX Education Certification Programme covers various topics related to mental health, special needs, and behavior. The content is designed with the help of the Institute of Mental Health Singapore and Marshall Cavendish Education Singapore. Topics include learning issues, anxiety, ADHD, hearing and visual impairment, autism-spectrum disorders, and eating disorders. It also covers how to create a good learning environment, manage a disruptive classroom, and conduct effective parent-teacher meetings.

The yellow and green belt modules involve self-learning, while the black belt module has a two-day workshop session. After completing each stage, educators receive a certificate. The LearnX platform helps educators go beyond academic subjects and engage with students, parents, and the education system. Built-in AI presents scenarios to ensure educators understand the topics covered. After selecting an answer, the AI poses a follow-up question to gauge the educator’s confidence level. Schools receive reports on their teachers’ understanding of the various topics covered.

The LearnX platform supports different languages and uses gaming technology and animations to keep users engaged. A leaderboard measures educators’ scores based on how quickly they complete a topic, their confidence level, and their mastery of the topic. Only the top 5% qualify for the black-belt certification workshop, where they can learn from international leaders, mentors, and authors. The first workshop will be held in Singapore in August for participants from India. The program has been well received in India, although it may take some time to see its full impact. Mental health is still a taboo subject for many people.

Involvement from multiple stakeholders, including school management and parents, is crucial. The team plans to launch a separate program for parents in the future. The LearnX Education Certification Programme is now available for enrolment in Malaysia. Yellow-belt certification is free, while the cost for the green belt varies based on enrolment size.

AMD and Microsoft Collaborate to Develop Powerful AI Chips: A Game-Changer in Computing

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

Microsoft is teaming up with AMD to enter the artificial intelligence (AI) chips market. Microsoft will provide financial support to AMD, while also working on its own AI processor called Athena. Both companies want to offer an alternative to NVIDIA, which currently dominates the AI chip market. NVIDIA is the biggest provider of GPUs to Microsoft, and its VMs power Microsoft’s Generative AI projects and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Microsoft’s partnership with AMD to develop AI chips is part of a larger plan by Microsoft to deepen its relationship with chipmakers and embrace the Generative AI wave. AMD’s shares rose over 6.5% after the announcement. However, Microsoft denied that AMD is involved in the development of its Athena processor, despite already spending over $2 billion on chip development. This denial is unusual given the announced partnership.

Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, said that they are very excited about their opportunity in AI and that it is their top priority. She also stated that they are in the early stages of the AI computing era and that its adoption and growth are faster than any other technology in recent history.

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

People have been talking about the Pixel Fold for a long time. Now, Google has confirmed that it’s real! They’ll officially launch it during the Google I/O keynote on May 10th (May 11th in some places). Google teased the launch on May 4th with a Star Wars-themed tweet.

We don’t know much about the Pixel Fold yet, but much has already been leaked. The codename for the device is ‘Felix’. Its durable hinge will make it sturdier than other foldable phones. The outer display will be 5.8 inches and the main display will be 7.6 inches. The camera bar on the back will have three cameras, a 48MP main camera, a 10.8MP ultrawide camera, and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto camera.

The Pixel Fold will be water resistant and have a large battery life. It will feature the Google Tensor G2 processor, the same as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The rumored starting price is around USD1,700, which is lower than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. You can sign up for more information on the Pixel Fold after its official launch at Google I/O. However, it’s uncertain whether it will be available in Malaysia, as Google has never officially released any hardware.

The End of Passwords: Exploring the Future of Secure Online Authentication

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

For a while now, people have been trying to find a safer and simpler way to log in to their accounts online. Passwords can be hard to remember and put you at risk if someone gets hold of them. Last year, we started working with other companies to create a new way of logging in that’s easier and more secure. Now, we’re rolling out this new way, called “passkeys”, on Google Accounts. You can still use your password, but passkeys will be an additional option. So, by next year’s World Password Day, you might not even need to use your password anymore!

Passkeys are a new and better way to log in to apps and websites. They let you use your fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock PIN instead of a password. They are more secure than passwords because they are resistant to attacks like phishing. Companies like DocuSign, Kayak, PayPal, Shopify, and Yahoo! Japan already use passkeys for sign-in. Starting today, Google Account users can try passkeys too!

Passkeys for Google Accounts are available now, and you can try them out by going to g.co/passkeys. For Google Workspace accounts, administrators will soon have the option to enable passkeys during sign-in. But, passwords and 2SV will still work for Google Accounts. We’re excited to help people make signing in easier and safer with Google!

Google I/O 2023 Preview: What to Expect from Next Week’s Event

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Google’s annual developer conference is happening next week in Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheater. This is the first time in four years that the conference is happening in person. The keynote will debut all the different software projects the company has been working on for the past year. The event starts on May 10 at 10 AM PT. The event will be a showcase for everything that’s coming for Android 14. The company has arguably missed a step when it comes to the current generative AI land rush.

CEO Sundar Pichai will speak about Google’s leadership in artificial intelligence at the conference. The event usually showcases real-world applications of AI, such as mobile imaging and customer service. This year, the company is expected to focus heavily on AI. The conference may also feature hardware announcements. Rumors suggest that the keynote will have a consumer electronics focus. The author will focus on hardware announcements in their coverage.

Google has a pattern of releasing a budget device in the spring, after a flagship device in the fall. The budget device, called Pixel 7a, compromises some features for its price. Google has announced that the Pixel 7a will be released on May 11, the day after the I/O conference. The announcement was made by Google India, hinting at the company’s focus on the Indian smartphone market. The design of the Pixel 7a is expected to be similar to the previous model, but the name has not been confirmed.

The Pixel 7a is a budget device with a release date of May 11, likely targeted at the Indian market. It is expected to have a 6.1-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 64-megapixel rear camera and will feature the Tensor G2. Google has confirmed the existence of a Pixel Tablet, but its release date is uncertain. The tablet may be officially announced at the Google I/O event or in September/October. Google’s reentry into the Android tablet category is expected to have a unique spin.

There are rumors of a new Google tablet that can turn into a Nest dock. It’s expected to have Tensor G2 and 8GB of RAM. Google may also announce its own foldable device, which has been rumored for years. The leaked renders suggest that it’s more like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold than Z Flip, and shares design DNA with Oppo’s foldable. It’s expected to be half an inch thick when folded and 0.2 inches unfolded, and weigh 283 grams.

Foldable devices are becoming more popular, and Google is rumored to be working on its own Pixel Fold. Other unlikely hardware rumors include a competitor to Apple’s AirTag, new Pixel Buds, and a Pixel Watch 2. There isn’t much news on Nest products for the home this year.

Google’s mobile operating system, Android, is always a major part of their I/O event. A summer release of the new version, internally named Upside Down Cake, is expected. Features include better battery life, accessibility, privacy, and security. Expect generative AI to be in many Google consumer products. A preview of the new Wear OS may be presented, and there may be some mention of AR/VR. The keynote is on May 10, and TechCrunch will provide coverage.
