DuckDuckGo Launches Privacy-Focused AI Chatbot Service Featuring Top Generative Models

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

DuckDuckGo, an alternative search engine known for respecting user privacy, has launched a new service that offers anonymous and free access to a variety of generative AI chatbots. The service allows users to talk to some of the most advanced language models, including OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta’s Llama 3 70B, and Mistral AI’s Mixtral 8x7B. Users can access the service through the duck.ai website and can easily switch between the models.

The strength of the service lies in its privacy-focused approach, as conversations are guaranteed to be anonymous and untraceable (user IP addresses are replaced by DuckDuckGo). Therefore, user queries will not be used to train the models.

The service is especially relevant at a time when online privacy concerns are rising, both among individuals and professionals. DuckDuckGo has committed to providing a privacy-friendly solution, stripping metadata that could be harvested by third parties before each query is sent.

The service is free to use, but only a certain number of requests are permitted per day. Despite that, DuckDuckGo has not ruled out offering a paid option for those who wish to use this service without restrictions.

Nokia Makes World’s First ‘Immersive’ Phone Call with 3D Audio Technology

Reading Time: < 1 minute read

Nokia, a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology and consumer electronics company, has made the world’s first ‘immersive’ phone call. The innovation uses the new Immersive Voice and Audio Services (IVAS) codec, which is part of the ‘5G Advanced’ standard. Nokia claims the codec can create a three-dimensional sound experience and can make phone calls more lifelike.

Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark together with Finland’s Ambassador of Digitalization and New Technologies, Stefan Lindström, made the phone call using a regular smartphone that can access a public 5G network. Jyri Houpaniemi, Nokia Technology’s head of audio research, said that in addition to being used for immersive calls, it could also be used for conference calls where participants’ voices can be separated based on their location.

Most smartphones have at least two microphones with which this technology can be implemented by transmitting the spatial characteristics of the call in real time, executives said. Unfortunately, the upcoming 5G Advanced standard, which is set to follow existing 5G cellular technology, will not be fully launched for several years. Nokia aims to license the technology and it may take some time to do so.

It is hoped that this very valuable innovation will be launched quickly by Nokia in the future.
