Is Apple Music Catching Up to Spotify with the New Free Trial?

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Apple Music is doing the same for Spotify at this moment by giving a free three-month trial to its new subscribers until September 23. This extended free trial would give users a full deal with all the features that Apple offers at no cost, unlike the previous one-month free trial. This offer is only available for first-time users.

You need to be a new subscriber to be eligible for the trial. Any existing users, whether they have access to Family plans or any other upgraded plans, are thus ruled out. You are also required to enroll using the Apple Music app on an iPhone, Mac, or iPad with the latest software.

Apple Music

Apple Music is differentiated from the others through its high-quality streams and well-maintained, mastered playlists. It combines editorial playlists with algorithmic ones. It offers audio of CD quality or even more excellent quality without additional charges for lossless streaming.

But it does come with boundaries on how far it can go. Apple Music is geared toward Apple devices, it’s also available on Android. Podcasts aren’t covered, and there isn’t a free version other than the trial.

Apple Music

Notice that after the trial is over, this service will renew at $11 per month. Be sure to cancel if you don’t want to go further. Begin your music campaign through Apple Music’s vast library during this most generous trial offer.

Here’s Why X chose to close the office in Brazil

X has announced that X close its office in Brazil. The reason is, legal threats made against representatives of the company. One of the Supreme Court justices, Alexandre de Moraes, was reported to have threatened to arrest one of the legal representatives of X. This was after X refused to delete some of the content as ordered.

X chose to close the office in Brazil rather than abide by what it described as “censorship orders.” According to Reuters, this step was to protect its staff. Even with that, the X service will continue to be available in Brazil. However, the company is no longer willing to operate an office in that country.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, called de Moraes out publicly over his actions. Musk said that complying with the demands would require breaching several laws, including Brazilian and international laws. He added that the closure of the office in Brazil was a tough decision but one that was very necessary.

It also mentioned that its appeals to the Supreme Court fell on deaf ears. The company said that its staff in Brazil had no say over the blocking decisions. As opposed to pursuing the proper legal channels, however, de Moraes chose to threaten the staff.

This conflict marks a high point in the emerging tensions between X and the government of Brazil. The choice made by X to hold staff safety above compliance with local orders could have far-reaching implications for its global operations.

What’s Gemini New Features Update? Improved Functionality

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Very recently, it introduced a batch of new features in Gemini. The features included are a visual glow around its floating window. Now it will provide the facility so that the user can interact with it without opening the application. The glowing effect will make the chatbot viewable and accessible to all.

Now, it’s going to let the Gemini window expand to three-quarters of the screen. This adds much more immersion into the conversations while being able to keep your current app or screen in view. Those who want a full Gemini still have the ability through an icon in the top right corner of the window.

The update also allows users to drag and drop Gemini-created images directly into Google Messages and Gmail. The feature makes Gemini’s capabilities more accessible within daily communication apps, allowing the sharing and utilization of images created by the chatbot to be easier.

Finally, the “Ask about this video” feature on YouTube allows users to obtain summaries and ask questions about videos from within an app. This adds a whole new dimension to interaction with video content in a much more informative and interactive way. The new features will begin to go live in the coming weeks for all Gemini and Gemini Advanced users.

Here’s Why Google Messages No Longer Supports YouTube PiP

An unpopular removal was quietly made to Google Messages of its YouTube picture-in-picture feature. Added last year, this feature allowed users to view YouTube videos directly in the app, making it easier for users to keep watching videos without switching apps. Unfortunately, this functionality was killed in the last updates.

The APK teardown continues to note that all related code and text triggering the feature have been torn out. Now, when users tap a YouTube link, they’ll be redirected to the app instead of opening in a floating video. There’s no official word from Google Messages on this change yet, leaving users to speculate.

Google Messages

It is not known why the feature was removed. Maybe it was taken away because few people were using it. Anyway, there’s a new reason for YouTube lovers to get excited.

YouTube is currently testing a new mini-player that is movable and resizable on the screen. Only a few users have access to this feature, but it might provide greater flexibility while watching.

Instagram Tests New Rectangular Profile Grid Layout

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Instagram is currently testing a new display for a profile grid that features rectangular pictures. The company’s head, Adam Mosseri, announced the change recently in a story on Instagram. Until now, the Instagram grid is square. Its design was inherited from when it first started and could only upload square photos. With most of its uploads now being vertical—be it 4 x 3 images or 9 x 16 videos—the square is restrictive.

Currently, this video tab on Instagram is already in a rectangular grid. The new profile grid test mirrors this layout and now includes photo posts. A user posted an image of this test on Threads with a very similar design. The spokesperson from Instagram has confirmed that indeed the product is in a trial phase for a small number of users.

Instagram Profile Grid

The app has been working on this new layout since at least 2022, according to Alessandro Paluzzi. The test is ongoing, but not all users are pleased with this change. Mosseri shared his story in response to user concerns about losing the classic grid layout.

First, Instagram will collect feedback from its testing group, and then, based on the outcomes, it might even consider a larger rollout. What this app wants to do is strike a balance between modern functionality and what users want. Needless to say, the feedback is going to be instrumental in deciding whether the grid will become permanent or not, and when.

The move forms part of an attempt by the platform to adapt to the changing needs and preferences of users. This new layout will certainly be interesting to see how it works through use cases as the testing phase unfolds.
