The PMO has slammed Meta for taking down a post covering Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as well. That meeting, which took place in Qatar in May, was shown in the post that Meta took down from Instagram. PMO thinks it reflects a bias against the situation in Palestine.
PMO wants an explanation and apology from Meta. They shared, in the screenshot, that Instagram takes down the posting for bulk support in dangerous groups. The post displays Anwar Ibrahim condolences to Haniyeh on his family’s loss and updates on Gaza.
This isn’t the first time it has occurred. Previously also, Facebook had taken down some of the posts related to the rendezvous but later brought them up. Meta cited that there were errors in the previous removals, whereas the latest removal has drawn disgrace.
In other news, Hamas reported that their leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed by an Israeli strike in Iran. He went to Iran to participate in the swearing-in of Iran’s new president and now has become another fatality of the ongoing violence. This has implications for a ceasefire in Gaza.
In general, Meta’s moves and the latest geopolitics underline continued pressures and challenges in the region.
