Google has just released the latest AI text-to-image generator, called Imagen 3, to users within the US. The availability will be through Google’s AI Test Kitchen platform. The detail is finer, the lighting is richer, and there are few artifacts. The release was first spotted by VentureBeat following an announcement at Google I/O in May.

Imagen 3 allows users to generate prompt descriptions for detailed images. It even provides the facility to edit images by highlighting parts that need change and mentioning descriptions as to what changes a user would want to see. That kind of customization makes this model quite different from the ones that have come before.

Google also put a tight guardrail on Imagen 3 to prevent abuse. The tool won’t generate pictures of public figures or weapons, for example. But with a little creativity, it’s still possible to create artwork that looks a lot like popular characters.

In contrast to Grok, Elon Musk’s X platform AI generator, the tool is more controlled, with increased safeguards to prevent controversial image creation, such as images regarding drugs and violence. The tools developed by Google, on the other hand, are oriented toward responsible and ethical application.

Google AI tools are not foreign to issues—a fact already realized with its Gemini AI chatbot. A few months ago, it was realized that it generated historically inaccurate images. As a result, Google turned off image generation.
