Google App Beta Introduces New Icon-Based Shortcuts

Reading Time: 2 minutes read

Updates continue to arrive, and the latest beta of the Google app, version 15.34, shows a new look for the shortcuts carousel. Gone are the text labels replaced by colorful icons, making it not only more intuitive but saving screen space at the same time. Among these new shortcuts, the user will be able to search for photos, translate text, solve homework, identify songs, and buy products in screenshots.

This cleans up transitioning the text-heavy buttons to simple icons. The user intuitively will mostly know and find these icons familiar. However, there could be a better optimization in layout. With only five shortcuts, all this should fit on one screen. A tighter UI would eliminate scrolling.

For now, the new shortcuts only include Google Lens functionalities. This update opens up a floodgate of possibilities for further enhancements. Changes would probably come with the stable release soon. By the pace of this development, it may roll out to all users anytime soon.

This new design is all about efficiency and user experience. The text-to-icons transition cleans up the interface. Users can move between different functions with ease without too much scrolling. This is a step in the right direction regarding the optimization of the interface of the Google app.

The beta version is still in continuous development, so more features are foreseen to be added. Continue monitoring other updates that may help in making the use of your apps more engagingly easy. For the time being, enjoy the smoothed-out shortcuts and functionality at their best.
