Blue light from a smartphone will fasten blindness

What exactly is blue light? The name itself says it is a type of light which is in blue color. As we know, the only source of blue light was from the sun. On this 21st century, we can see blue light everywhere especially in our digital screens. That is our TV, smartphone, computer, laptop, tablet and gaming console.

Natural vs Artificial blue light

There are two types of blue light which are natural blue light and artificial blue light. As the study suggests, the lights from the sun travel through the atmosphere are the natural blue light. Have you ever think about why the sky looks blue? Our sky is blue because there is a collision of the blue light wavelength with the air molecules. This is what causes you to have a natural sleep and wake cycle. Studies by researchers also say that blue light helps to boost alertness. That is the reason when the sky is blue we wake up immediately to know it is late to work.

Recently, research was done by the University of Toledo says that the blue light from your smartphones, laptops, and tables will fasten your eye blindness.

Effects of blue lights

From the research, they also found that the blue light which generates poisonous molecules can damage your vision quickly. Now you know why your parents used to say stop looking at your electronic devices. This will then cause to accelerate macular degeneration and other eye diseases too. Their findings were published in the Scientific Reports. According to a report from Brightfocus Foundation, almost 11 million people in the United States have macular degeneration. They have also said that most likely the number of patients with this disease will double by 2050 because almost the whole day people are looking at the computer screens without resting their eyes and body. The sitting position in the office also can affect the eye-strain.

Avoiding blue light disease

You can protect yourself from being the victim of macular degeneration by following a few steps. According to Dr. Ajith Karunarathne who is one of the researchers in the University of Toledo says to Guardian that people should start wearing sunglasses which can filter the blue light. Other than that, he also suggests that you should try your best to avoid using your electronic devices in the dark. Another interesting way is by wearing glasses with amber or orange color lenses can easily block the blue light from entering into the macular of your eyes.
