For the quite acclaimed series by Stoic, The Banner Saga, this action-adventuring game by the name of Towerborne is highly anticipated. Mashing up attributes of an action RPG with platforming gameplay, Towerborne takes place in a City of Numbers where monsters are lurking to kill off the last haven of humanity. Here’s an extensive coverage of all that is known about Towerborne, together with its release date, gameplay mechanics, and much more.
According to its announcement trailer, Towerborne is due for release in 2024. While a specific date hasn’t been released yet, Stoic at least confirmed this game will be playable on Xbox consoles and Windows PC, then launch into Day One on Game Pass for those subscribers. Certainly keep an eye out for some potential playtest opportunities or early access—the details will likely come later this year.
Overview of Gameplay
Setting and Story
Towerborne takes place in the City of Numbers, where battle-hardened warriors, or Aces, fight to protect Belfry citizens from a host of monstrous threats. Born into the spirit realm, the Aces were equipped with special abilities and skills to help fight perils outside Belfry’s fortifications. There is a grid-like map on the game world, suggesting players are to conquer and hold areas in order to enlarge the safe area for the inhabitants of Belfry.
Combat and Co-op Play
Towerborne is a game of hack ‘n’ slash action, solo or in party in 4-player co-op mode. This cooperative aspect brings forth a dash of strategy as you will be able to blend your powers and defend the town better.
Facilities in Belfry
Belfry, the last bastion of humanity, has various facilities which will make or break the players’ quest to defend the town:
- Forge: A menu where players can enhance weapons and armor using materials gathered by exploring.
- Council Building: It is where key NPCs go, from whom new missions are taken, and through which most of the plotline of the game is driven forward.
- Marketplace: A supply of things one needs for an adventure or battle.
- Ace HQ: An area to hang out with some NPC Aces, allowing one to discover key quests that will further the story.
- Facewright: A cosmetic facility where players can customize their character’s appearance without any cost.
- Overlook: Applied to view of the world of Towerborne, providing a beautiful view, a small dosage of peace, and time for silent counseling.
Towerborne Trailers and Updates
The announcement trailer of Towerborne portrays the residents who were searching for a safe place and taken shelter in The Belfry. A group of four brave characters braves the perilous world outside. Enemies revealed so far in the trailer have been frog creations, wolves, and even some rather ominous-looking mushrooms. There were no new trailers since announcement; nor did a game feature in the Xbox Showcase 2024 Stream—the Stoic Studios team busy teasing, telling people more updates on the Towerborne X account. Fans can then expect more reveals and information later into the summer.
Available in 2024, Towerborne seems to be one of the more uniquely exciting games coming out for both Xbox and PC players. More updates will come out leading up to the game’s launch
