What you need to know about the Nothing Phone (1)

Nothing, a London-based tech company has officially revealed its new debut product, a smartphone known as the Nothing Phone 1. The simplicity and uniqueness of this device’s name have turned many curious heads that are eager to know more about it. So, what is the Nothing Phone 1? Is it worth getting your hands on it? Is Nothing a potential rival to giant smartphone companies like iPhone or Samsung? 

Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing intends for their debut smartphone to go beyond the mainstream smartphone landscape that populates the market today. In addition, he had high hope that this device would relive the excitement of using technology among its users. 

Nothing Phone 1 Specifications

The futuristic design is the first thing that we noticed about the Nothing Phone 1. Let’s start with the innovative light strips across the back of the device which are known as the Glyph Interface. This feature is designed to serve multiple purposes such as signaling app notifications, showing the battery status and acting as additional light for the camera. Even more interesting is that the light pattern will indicate who is calling you as it will sync with the phone’s ringtone! 

Next, the device is equipped with a 6.55” OLED display that supports HDR10+. The maximum refresh rate is 120 Hz for responsive interactions. Most notably, the dual side of Gorilla glass guaranteed the durability of the phone. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus processor that will deliver a better performance. On top of that, the incorporation of Nothing OS software promised users a smoother Android operation. Nothing OS also enables seamless integration with third-party products. 

There are two advanced 50-megapixel sensors (The main and ultrawide) on the rear of the phone. The main one is the Sony IMX766 which has dual image stabilization support. The latter is the Samsung ISOCELL JN1 which serves as an ultrawide camera that enables users to take macro shots. 

Availability and Prices in Malaysia

As for now, the phone will be available in two configurations for a local price. 

8GB + 128 GB = RM2399

8GB + 256 GB = RM2699

The Nothing Phone 1 will be widespread launched on 21 July 2022. But, the phone is expected to enter the Malaysian market on 1 August.
