Sony has released the Alpha 1 Mark II today, after the Alpha 1 Mark I of the year 2021. The recently released mirrorless camera has received some enhancements, making it more appealing to professional creators.
The Alpha 1 II looks like previous Sony E-mount camera bodies, though there are improvements internally. To this end, it has an Exmor RS Stacked CMOS sensor of 50.1-megapixel in addition to a BIONZ XR image processor. These components create the possibility of burst shooting at a very high speed of 30 frames per second.
AI-Powered Autofocus in Sony Alpha 1 Mark II
Sony’s new autofocus system, based on artificial intelligence, enhances the tracking of subjects in different conditions. The speed at which an eye-tracking system identifies birds elevates by 50%, animals by 30%, and humans by 30%. This system can now identify subjects without the need for the user to type them in again.
On the stability front, the camera uses enhanced IBIS, up to 8.5 stops of stabilization are available here. This enhancement enables images to be clearer when the camera is handheld.
The Alpha 1 II however features an excellent video capability, with a recording rate of 8K at 30p and 4K with a rate of 120p. Its 10-bit 4:2:2 output is lively and true to color. The pre-capture mode allows the user to capture scenes before the shutter button is pushed.
New features have also been designed on the body of the camera with the interests of workmanship, ergonomics, and functionality in mind. New control buttons have been included in its design and it has a multi-angle touch screen. It only has a weight of 743 grams and this makes it convenient for use by professional employees.
Sony has set the sheep of the Alpha 1 II at $6500 (~RM29,000) for the body-only version. This camera will be launched for the worldwide market from December 2024.
