What used to be a very famous messaging and calling app now has to bear new competitors in the form of Discord, Teams, and Zoom. Not long ago, Microsoft announced a massive update for Skype targeting improvements and refreshing the user experience. Version 8.125.76.201 is now available for Skype Insiders, bringing some notable changes to the platform.

The most outstanding update within the new version is the removal of advertisements from Skype. This is an attempt to clean up the interface to improve user satisfaction. Microsoft hopes that removing these ads will drive users back to Skype.
Moreover, Skype is updating its AI image generator. The enhanced AI tool becomes more accessible from the chat window. It’ll work very much like Windows 11’s Copilot, reinforcing the app’s functionality and how it will work with users.
These updates are currently only available to Skype Insiders. A release date for the general version hasn’t been announced by Microsoft yet. Only time will tell if these changes help Skype reclaim its previous status as one of the top apps people use for communication.
Skype attempts to get itself anew so that users have a smoother, more feature-filled experience as it evolves. Whether these updates will drive users back to Skype is still uncertain.
