Google’s great ‘Drag to Search’ feature is expanding beyond mobile devices, initially launching with the Pixel 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, it will soon debut on desktops and Chromebooks. 9to5Google reports the new update will integrate with the Chrome browser on desktops.

Drag to Search

For desktops, the feature will go by the name “Drag to Search”. Yes, there’s a difference simply to cater to non-mobile devices without a touch screen. That’s because, even with the new name, the feature is still closely integrated with Google Lens, giving a similar user experience.

The Lens icon will now be present in the address bar for Chromebook users. For Mac and Windows users, the extension will be accessible through the three-dot menu located in the Chrome browser. With it, users could grab a portion of an image and set it in motion by searching after selecting “Search with Google Lens.”.

Right now, Drag to Search is in the ChromeOS 127 and Chrome 128 betas. According to 9to5Google, it will soon be available in the stable version. This is an exciting expansion that will make how users search visually across devices way better.
