New Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored to Support Backward Compatibility

Cultists expect the next-gen Nintendo Switch, now assumed for 2025 launch. Sources have indicated that for switch 2, the console will feature backward compatibility. This feature enables the players to play all games of the current switch on the new device.

As recently as in Nintendo’s mid-year policy briefing there were more confirmations of it. According to the document, there is a call for backward compatibilities in the next-gen device on page 49. Finally, yet importantly, Nintendo also gearing up to release the same Nintendo Switch online for the next generation console.

Amid these statements, Nintendo’s official X account, and its Japanese headquarters in particular, actively utilized this expression. However, to the fans of the company, more specific information regarding the backward compatibility was promised to be released later. Nintendo’s goal is of course to keep playing, to link two generations seamlessly.

Further leaks reveal that the console itself may be released before May 2025. After being anticipated in the current fiscal that started in March, the launch was moved to the next fiscal. The specs of the prototypes have also leaked thus creating interest in new possibilities of new features.

All these strategies demonstrate that Nintendo is willing to cater to Switch players, and cares for their existing games. Both backward compatibility and the subscription expansion online will help fans around the world to be upgraded easily.
