Now available on the Google Play Store, this app provides direct access to Microsoft’s advanced AI capabilities, including the Copilot feature, without requiring the Bing mobile app. This release was first noted by Neowin and has been available for Android users for about a week, with an iOS version anticipated soon.
Resembling ChatGPT in functionality, the Copilot app for Android extends beyond basic chatbot interactions. It includes innovative features like image generation through DALL-E 3 and tools for drafting texts for emails and documents. What sets it apart is the complimentary access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model, which typically requires a subscription when used via ChatGPT.
Copilot’s Standalone Interface and Expansion Plans
Microsoft’s strategic shift from Bing Chat to Copilot as a standalone service enhances the user experience. Initially integrated into the Bing search engine with a ChatGPT-style interface, the rebranded service now operates independently on its dedicated domain, copilot.microsoft.com. This change aligns with Microsoft’s broader vision of making Copilot a distinct and more accessible AI tool.
The introduction of Copilot mobile apps represents a natural progression in expanding this AI service. Following the rebranding of Bing Chat Enterprise to simply Copilot, the focus now is on enhancing the mobile user experience. Although an iOS version of Copilot is not yet available, its release seems imminent. In the meantime, iPhone and iPad users can access Copilot features through the Bing app.
