Klik Divorce Changes The Divorce Landscape In Malaysia

Have you ever come across a digital divorce platform before? Sounds intriguing right?

Klik Divorce, which was launched in early July, is the country’s first digital divorce platform. It was designed with the primary goal of making it easier for people who are seeking legal avenues for the dissolution of marriage. On top of that, the platform will offer great inclusivity, especially to middle-income families or individuals who cannot afford a legal representative to resolve their marital disputes.

It was developed by lawyers Dato Fion Wong and Dato Chris Chin who are also the creators of Askaila, Malaysia’s first A.I. legal assistant, which debuted last year. Both of them strongly advocate for the adoption of technology in Malaysia’s legal industry.

How Klik Divorce Works

Klik Divorce allows users to build divorce terms such as spouse maintenance, child custody, maintenance, visiting rights, and the division of marital assets. Moreover, divorce documents will be instantly generated for printing and signing with a single click. If the divorcing couple accepts the terms, the process would take only around 5 minutes. The law firm can then assess the documents and prepare them for filing in Court the next working day.

Furthermore, those who face difficulties or require assistance to facilitate settlement agreements can seek the assistance of a lawyer, either online or in person.

What Klik Divorce Will Offer To Its Users

Klik Divorce will offer two key benefits namely time and cost-efficient that will greatly assist the couple throughout the agonising divorce proceedings

Dato Fion stated that “many people are unable to afford the legal fees for divorce, especially with today’s increasing costs of living. Additionally, it can take anywhere between 6-12 months for terms to be discussed back and forth before the divorce is filed in court.”

“Adopting legal technology to execute simple manual tasks can save a lot of time and reduce costs which make legal fees affordable to more people. This also enables lawyers to dedicate more time and effort to develop the law” he added.

Klik Divorce is particularly useful in uncontested divorce proceedings. It not only speeds things up and smooths out the procedure, but also leads to quicker settlements, freeing up the judiciary’s workload and court time. As Malaysia’s first legal online service, it also creates a foundation and paves the path for more digitalized services in the future.

Despite the positive feedback received from the users, there are lawyers who continually denied the adoption of this platform. It appears that this innovative legal tech will be able to redesign the divorce landscape in Malaysia and at the same time support the Malaysian government’s goal of adapting technology extensively across many industries.
