Japan has the fastest internet speed and it’s mind-blowing

In recent times, Japanese researchers broke a new world record in Internet speed by reaching 402 Tbps using an off-the-shelf optical fibre. NICT, Japan National Institute of Information and Communications Technology team surpassed the one held by the UK’s Aston University at 301Tbps.

NICT

NICT’s system works on all the transmission bands of standard optical fibres. They apply different amplification technologies. The innovation that allows this opens the availability of the currently ineffective wavelength bands. NICT thinks that the method holds potential gains for telecommunication networks of the future.

The scientists developed a bizarre optical fibre system. NICT said that the technology could expand the optical communication infrastructure. This will be useful in coping with the bursting request for data services. The prospective effect on customers can be staggering.

What does this translate to in speeds that NICT is achieving?

The speeds are close to 3.5 million times faster than the median of 112Mbps achieved by Malaysia. That will be a very big difference, as can be told from this comparison. The median speed of Malaysia was reported by performance analytics platform Ookla.

To illustrate, these speeds would get 12,500 films downloaded in one second. That is more than the total film collection owned by Netflix. In the case of gaming, downloading Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would take 0.003423 seconds. This achievement is just a way to show how wonderful the potential of what NICT has done is.
