Kadokawa is planning to be acquired by Sony, the Japanese media conglomerate that might own FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft. Sources claim negotiations are moving, with Sony expected to seal the deal in weeks. This would be a major boost to Sony’s entertainment division and add Kadokawa’s power to their ecosystem.

It furthermore illustrates that Sony is interested in the media firm because it has holding of 2 percent in Kadokawa. In response to this news, Kadokawa’s shares increased by 16 percent – this is in line with market sentiment. As per the terms and if the deal goes through then Sony will be having its hands on Kadokawa’s gaming division, this includes Software too.

Concerns arise this acquisition may limit the development of fresh FromSoftware games concepts or result in PlayStation only. That is why one has to question Sony’s treatment of Japan Studio as well as other acquired studios and companies. However, resources that are available with Sony could also turn out to be beneficial for Kadokawa to expand and innovate around the world.

Sony acquired Crunchyroll in 2021, and the company does have experience with rolling media businesses together. Although it was criticized in the West, this move helped Sony’s anime lineup. Same as with Kadokawa it can further strengthen Sony’s stand in gaming and media markets.

For gamers though, the bigger question still lies in what other titles FromSoftware has in store for the future after these acquisition rumors. That’s why such games as Elden Ring could become PlayStation exclusives in the future.? Well-wishers are left waiting for direction as talks go on between these two Japanese behemoths.
