Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that Genius Electronic Optical is gearing up to provide Huawei’s P70 series with a state-of-the-art ultrawide angle camera module. While specifics are under wraps, it’s anticipated that this upgrade will propel the P70 series to achieve a staggering 100% to 120% growth in shipments compared to its predecessor, the P60 series.
The forthcoming ultrawide camera for the P70 series is rumoured to feature a groundbreaking 1G6P lens, incorporating one glass and six plastic elements, paired with a sizable 1-inch type sensor. This marks a significant leap from the current industry standard of 1/1.56-inch type sensors. There’s also buzz about a potential 7P lens variant, which, while more cost-effective and simpler to produce, would still represent a notable enhancement in camera technology.

Huawei’s strategy for the P70 series is not just about upgrading the hardware; it’s about making a substantial, global impact. Key to this ambition is the integration of 5G connectivity and Huawei’s proprietary sensors. The camera system, especially the ultrawide angle camera, is expected to be a major highlight, utilizing the XMAGE platform and a custom NPU to deliver unparalleled imaging capabilities.
Kuo predicts that the Huawei P70 series will make its debut in the first half of this year, setting the stage for Huawei to make a powerful statement in the global smartphone market with its advanced technology and ambitious growth targets.
