The ChatGPT app is now available to any macOS user after its initial, limited rollout last month. The requirements for downloading this app are that the user should have Sonoma with Apple Silicon. This native app lets you call upon ChatGPT anytime by just tapping Option+Space. It opens a bar to type what your question is, and then opens up the application showing you the answer.

You can also upload files or photos and take screenshots—just tap the attachments icon. Note that with screenshots, you will be allowing an app the access to record your screen. This is not quite how Microsoft’s Recall works.

The macOS app will also let you talk directly with ChatGPT. You’re going to be able to type on in one window while ChatGPT is working away on another. This makes this multitasking capability extremely unique compared to past virtual assistants. For decades, there have been numerous virtual assistants, but this feature has not been available.

Apple itself has recently worked with OpenAI regarding the development of Apple Intelligence. However, OpenAI has had even more historical partners outside the company. For instance, Microsoft has been an OpenAI investor since the startup days. The ChatGPT app is not yet made for Windows users. OpenAI plans to increase access to other platforms but won’t give a timeline.

Be Careful When Downloading the ChatGPT App on macOS

You can download the Mac app from the official website of OpenAI directly. Note that the Mac App Store is flooded by a lot of suspicious clone apps. Be sure to get the official one to avoid security threats. With the new advanced features and flawless integration natively, the new ChatGPT app for macOS brings productivity and comfort to a different level for macOS users. Watch out for updates on its availability in other platforms.
