As promised, Celcom has deployed more than 9000 LTE sites nationwide. This means the network capacity becomes larger to deliver more data to its customers. According to Celcom, their LTE network covers almost 91% of the current Celcom user population. Whereas, Maxis claims they have covered 92% of its customer population.

During the event, Celcom also mentioned that they are building their own IoT Centre of Excellence. In the next five years, Celcom has promised to invest RM100 million to build the network. They also planned to focus more on R&D of the IoT ecosystem. What Celcom could offer us would be smart metering, smart cars, smart cities and smart home solution. All these solutions can only achieved with the better network coverage.

We could realize this features once 5G network is fully established in Malaysia. According to the announcement by Malaysian government, Celcom will join Maxis to conduct live 5G trials starting April in Cyberjaya. Celcom will work with Huawei to develop their 5G test-bed. Additionally, they will also collaborate with Ericsson on its 5G network trial.
