Not stopping at ChatGPT, the breed of AI integrations is coming to include Google Gemini this fall, according to Bloomberg. It would be recalled that there had been rumors swirling around Apple’s interest in Google Gemini for iOS 18 recently, and even a nod from Apple software boss Craig Federighi.

While Apple does consider deals with Anthropic, Meta’s chatbot, Llama, was rejected over the perceived quality. Apple does not focus solely on chatbot, development goes on with Apple Intelligence, its generative AI system, which will be out in beta this fall.

Whereas other companies would want to make money with AI, not as an enabler of sticking on Apple hardware—Apple could have subscription-based Apple Intelligence features, giving more enhanced AI experiences to customers who use them. However, this rollout will take months.

Apple Intelligence will first be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, how this actually affects ambiance cycles for iPhones is yet to be known. The efficacy of these features shall be seen in due course, but Apple shall continue to have a cut from in-app purchases through the chatbot subscriptions of AI partners.

Third-party AI services will be the stopgap for Apple until it further builds out its internal generative AI system. This will give users more choice, even if it does ultimately come down to what amounts to variations on algorithmic data reconstruction.

It’s changing its AI strategy to expand its AI ecosystem, directly monetize AI, and give more choices to users. What will be exciting is how these developments will impact the future of AI and user experience.
