Earlier this year, we reported about Google experimenting with a redesigned account switcher pop-up on Android apps. The feature was enabled by app researcher @AssembleDebug in Gmail version 2024.09.01.670000360 Release. The design matches what we saw in the latest web account switcher, creating a more immersive UI. With gestures, you will need to swipe away or tap the X mark.
The current card-style overlay gets the full-screen UI as a replacement. But users can still swipe up or down to switch accounts. Basic interactions like these have stayed the same which preserves familiarity for users when navigating.

Design changes go beyond Android, and are also included with Workspace tools (including Drive) as well as SSO logins on other platforms. Google said the changes signal its continued focus on “building excellent design experiences.” While it has been tested, there is no word on its release timeline yet.
The redesign is in line with Google’s continued effort to make their apps easier and more convenient for users. This change by the new UI is for all users to switch their accounts relatively more hassle-free.
