Google has announced a major update to its Gemini experience during the recent Made by Google stream. The revamped Gemini now supports all functions previously available with the old Assistant. The new features aim to enhance user interaction and streamline processes.
Gemini now operates as an overlay rather than a fullscreen application. This change allows users to maintain their current context while interacting with Gemini. For those familiar with Circle to Search, this feature will feel intuitive. Users can now easily ask questions or generate images with Gemini and seamlessly integrate these images into Gmail or Google Messages.
However, not all Google software will be immediately compatible with Gemini. Extensions for Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Utilities are expected in the coming weeks. The Utilities extension will include phone functions such as the clock, flashlight, and volume control. All of this is powered by the Gemini Nano AI model, which performs most processing on-device.

Additionally, Google is rolling out Gemini Live, which enables real-time chat interactions. This feature, partially demoed via Project Astra, is not yet widely available. Access to Gemini Live requires a Gemini Advanced subscription, though pricing details have not been announced.
The revamped Gemini experience promises significant improvements, but its full range of functionalities will become available gradually. Keep an eye out for updates to make the most of these new features.
