Datuk Mohamad Idham Nawawi, CEO of Celcom, recently announced that the company is working to bring 5G services to its customers as soon as next month. He also stated that the company has now integrated super-fast 5G broadband connectivity at 1,000 telecom sites across the country.
Idham confirmed that Celcom is already conducting 5G trials among their employees in Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, as reported by The Vibes, Idham assured that if there are no hindrances, they could roll out their 5G service as early as September.

Minister of Finance Tengku Zafrul stated previously that if telcos do not accept DNB’s 5G terms by August 31st, they will not be granted access to 5G networks. No telco had signed the Reference Access Offer or made any public announcement to take a stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) as of the 8th of July when negotiations were originally scheduled to wrap up.
Concerns over pricing and lack of transparency have prevented any of the major players from signing commercial wholesale agreements with DNB. Back in April, Malaysia’s Big Four Telecoms namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis, and U Mobile came out and said that the DNB’s 5G access offer would prevent them from providing the people with quality, low-cost 5G service.
However, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, reported that negotiations between Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and the country’s six largest telecommunications providers are currently proceeding smoothly and are on track to be finalised by the deadline of August 31.
