The recent Apple Far Out event has seen the release of multiple additions of products to the Apple ecosystem and one of the most anticipated lineups is the iPhone 14 series. Previously, we all depend on the rumours and leaks about what to expect from this new series but they turned out to be true.

To start, Apple did, in fact, discontinue the mini lineup and replace it with the iPhone 14 Plus, as had been rumoured previously. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus serve as the two primary models. The primary distinction between the two is the size of the display, with the standard model having a screen measuring 6.1 inches and the iPhone 14 Plus measuring 6.7 inches.

Moreover, Super Retina XDR technology, High Dynamic Range (HDR), Dolby Vision, and the notch are some of the display features that have made a comeback. However, Apple designed and built its own OLED screen. Furthermore, both models seem to feature the familiar A15 Bionic chipset, which was also included in last year’s models. Since the devices now feature a 5-core GPU rather than 4 last year, it enhances their performance.

As for the camera setup, the dual 12MP + 12MP rear cameras are still there, but the new pro models have bigger sensors and apertures. They are also equipped with sensor-shift image stabilisation and a bigger sensor with larger, 1.9m pixels. In terms of video, the lineup also comes with Action Mode for a smoother hand-held video. Exactly like in the movies, you can also record videos in 4K at 24fps with the Cinematic mode.

There is also a Photonic Engine that comes standard on the iPhone 14 and the Plus variant which fans might find intriguing. It utilizes Apple’s Deep Fusion neural image processing which applies to all three iPhone 14 cameras. This feature enriches photos by retaining more detail and producing vibrant colours, while also improving low-light performance.

Interestingly, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus includes a new way to use Emergency SOS that uses satellite technology and an eSIM card, which is only available in the US market. The iPhone 14 can now detect a severe car crash, immediately call emergency services, and notify the user’s emergency contact.
