Samsung introduces the world’s first 64MP ISOCELL image sensor back in May this year. Smartphone makers have started to use this image sensor for their smartphones. The most recent, Realme announces Realme 5 will be featuring the 64MP image sensor. Even, Redmi also announces it will be using Samsung’s 64MP on its smartphone which the name is not revealed yet. Three months later, Samsung is back again to announce the world’s first 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor.

Last week, Xiaomi teases it will be using Samsung’s 108MP image sensor for its next smartphone. A few days later Samsung officially announces the world’s first 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor. With this new image sensor, Samsung says this is the first image sensor to go beyond 100 million pixels. Samsung indeed confirms its partnership with Xiaomi in its blog post.

With the new 108MP Bright HMX image sensor, you can take extremely sharp photographs rich in detail. The resolution is equivalent to the photos taken using a high-end DSLR camera. You can also take photos even in extreme lighting conditions without worrying about the clarity of the photo.

Samsung 108MP Bright HMX image sensor is the first mobile image sensor to adopt a large 1/1.33-inch size. With this, it helps to absorb more light to capture details shots. Samsung’s current 64MP ISOCELL image sensor has a sensor size of 1/1.7-inch size.

Using Tetracell technology, the image sensor able to produce brighter 27MP images by imitating big-pixel sensors during low-light situations. Whereas in the bright environment, the HMX uses the Smart-ISO to select the level of amplifier gains according to the illumination of the environment intelligently. It also uses the same Smart-ISO settings which help to reduce noise during darker settings.

Other than that, the 108MP HMX image sensor also supports video recording up to 6K 96016 x 3384) at 30-frames-per-second (fps) without losses in field-of-view. Sooner, you can start to film movies using this 108MP Bright HMX image sensor.

In conclusion, we are expecting Xiaomi to be the first smartphone maker to debut the 108MP image sensor. Xiaomi could be planning to use this image sensor in its next Mi MIX 4 smartphone.
